Famous Pakistan journalist Mubasher Lucman has accused Babar Azam of match-fixing after Pakistan's poor outing in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. He claimed that the captain of the team received expensive gifts, including an Audi E-Tron, and apartments in Australia and Dubai, in return for famous defeats.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been under the scanner ever since Pakistan were eliminated from the ICC T20 World 2024. The Babar Azam-led side faced an early exit as they failed to go past the league stage and couldn't qualify for the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

One of the major highlights of their campaign was the defeat that they suffered against the United States of America. It was the biggest upset in the history of cricket as they failed to step up with the bat and ball and went on to lose in the super over of the match.

After that Pakistan then went on to lose the game against India. For the majority of the game, they had the game in their grasp but they failed to win the game. They lost the game by 6 runs as India snatched the win from the jaws of defeat at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

The two back-to-back losses in the T20 World Cup 2024 meant that Pakistan got eliminated from the tournament. They were reliant on the United States of America to lose against Ireland but the game got washed out due to rain and it was curtains for them in the tournament.

As Pakistan failed to reach the Super 8 of the tournament, Babar Azam faced a lot of criticism. There are even calls to sack him as the captain of the team. But the skewering has taken a new twist as the captain has now been accused of match-fixing.

Famous Pakistan journalist Mubasher Lucman pointed out that Babar Azam got a new car recently, which according to the Pakistan captain was gifted to him by his brother. But the right-hander got it for losing the game against the USA. Taking to his Twitter account, he explained:

"A few days ago, you saw that Baba Azam's new Audi e-tron arrived. It is a very good car, I have also kept it. But they will get to know when its electric boards will start exploding in the rain. So, Baba Azam said that my brother had gifted it to me. So, since yesterday I have been wondering what his brother was doing. If he is gifting his brother a car worth 7-8 crores, then he must be doing a very good job.

"So, I found out that he is doing nothing. So, I said, where did this car come from? he said. "If you don't get a plot in Australia if you don't get an apartment in Dubai, then who else will get?' he added.

The journalist further went on to say that the captain even got plots in Australia and Dubai for losing the games. He also made a strong claim, saying that Saya Corporation is blackmailing the board. Elaborating on the same, he stated:

"So, I said, this is a very strong allegation, witch. I said, who are you talking about? She said, I am talking about everyone, everyone knows. Who are the bookies in the Pakistan team?

"And how did Saya Corporation used all of them to blackmail the board? How did they blackmail the board? The last World Cup was taking place in India. Eight players said we don't want to do it. And the rest of the players, they said, the stand that we are taking, you have to stay with us. Your pay will also increase. Everyone got their contracts, 50 lakhs."

These are serious allegations on Babar Azam from senior journalist Mubashir Luqman.

Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden opened up about the form of Virat Kohli in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. He said that the Indian batter in the Carribean conditions is a world-class batter and he will be able to work out things in the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

India batter Virat Kohli so far hasn't looked at his best in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The move to promote him up the order hasn't worked at all as he failed terribly in the league stage of the tournament and couldn't go in double figures even once.

Virat Kohli, who scored 741 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, was expected to play a big role for the team in the T20 World Cup 2024. But it didn't work at all. He started the tournament with a 1-run knock against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

In the second game against Pakistan, Virat Kohli played a gorgeous cover drive but immediately after that perished, scoring just 4 runs. In the next game against the United States of America, he bagged a golden duck and ended the league stage with just 5 runs to his name.

Matthew Hayden touted Virat Kohli as a world-class batter and claimed that on surfaces, where par scores are 160-170, experience of Kohli will be vital. He pointed out team won't be able to get the best out of him at number three and hence he should open. Speaking on Star Sports Press Room, he explained:

"Kohli in any condition is a world-class batter. These [Caribbean] are venues where you have to construct an innings and think about the kind of realistic totals that are possible in these different venues. Outside of St Lucia, par scores are in the range of 160-170 and Virat, with all his experience, will be able to work out what to do, like hitting spin towards the windward side, depending on how significant it is.

"Look, conditions in the USA were extremely tough, no one likes that. Everyone wants to see these great champions playing freely. But it's not necessarily going to be the case. That's why experience counts. I said it during the IPL as well, if Kohli was going to be in the team, he needs to open. Virat at three, I don't think we'll get the best out of him. You can't just turn up and blast 250 on these wickets, you need thinking cricketers."

Matthew Hayden while talking about Virat Kohli cited the example of David Warner, explaining how the opening batter has adjusted to conditions. He expressed his confidence that Virat Kohli will prove why he is being trusted to open, suggesting batter that he should keep his strike rate up. He explained:

"You look back at David Warner's performance this World Cup - in Barbados on a sluggish wicket, he made 30-odd [39 in 16 balls vs England]. It was a really well-constructed thirty. It depends on what your benchmark is. Are you looking at 100s, 50s, strike rate? The way Warner came out on a pretty [tough] wicket and blew the game away, that's what Kohli is going to be challenged with in the Caribbean.

"Just leave him alone. He will show you why the Indian selectors have had faith in him at that position. He needs to continue to have a great strike rate. We've clearly seen a pattern emerge here at the World Cup where those six overs [powerplay], you have to be in front of the game. It's too hard to catch up. If you're looking at the back half of the game, it's trouble. You must be clinical in the first ten," he concluded.

Former England cricketer Mark Butcher has slammed the ICC for the pre-decided Super 8s seeding in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

A total of 20 teams participated in the ongoing ninth edition of the T20 World Cup. Of the 20 teams, eight teams have progressed to the Super 8s. The eight teams have been further divided into two groups for Super 8s. India, Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh are in Group 1 while West Indies, South Africa, England, and USA are in Group 2.

The teams were seeded by the ICC even before the tournament. As a result, the teams did not get any advantage after finishing at the top of the points table in the group stage. The likes of Australia and India have found themselves in the same group despite topping their respective groups. Australia were seeded B2 even though they finished at the top after winning all of their four group games.

Mark Butcher slams ICC for pre-tournament Super 8s seeding

Several former as well as present cricketers including Australia star Mitchell Starc have expressed their disappointment over the pre-decided Super Eight seeding and schedule of the tournament. And now Mark Butcher has expressed his disapproval of the rule too.

The former England cricketer took a dig at ICC and indirectly accused them of favoring India. He also expressed his shock over India being already aware of their venue for the semifinal even before qualifying for it. It does not matter where India finish in the Super 8s, if they manage to qualify for the semifinals, the match will take place in Guyana.

"That whole thing from start to finish, from the idea of where you finish first or second in the group stage didn't matter where you ended up in Super Eights. And then one team knows which group it is going to be in the Super Eights and where its semifinal will be, meaning that the other team finishing second also knows where its semifinal will be is extraordinary," said Butcher while speaking on Wisden Cricket Weekly Podcast.

"How do you organise a competition around the fact that one team knows exactly, should everything go to plan, that it will be playing their semifinal on a particular day and at a particular venue, when everybody in the opposite group has no idea? And that is what it should be.

"You shouldn't have any clue. The group thing was pre-ordained simply because there was no seeding between finishing first or second in your group stage and that is wrong. I found that astonishing, and we all know why that is the case.

"It is because for the TV audiences, as far as India are concerned, pay the bills and therefore were kind of promised or delivered a scenario where they would exactly know where they would play their semifinal should they reach it. I find that incredible.

"You won't [hear anything from the broadcasters] because they're working for the ICC and the ICC won't allow any form of dissent from the people that it asked to come and work for it so you don't hear any criticism of anything. It's not allowed, banned," he added.

Meanwhile, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals.

India head coach Rahul Dravid hinted about the possible inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI for the Super 8 stage of T20 World Cup 2024. He said that if they feel the need to play wrist spinner they will give a thought ahead of the game against Afghanistan.

India were extremely dominating in the league stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. They won 3 out of the 3 games that they played and their last game got washed out. They played some good cricket but were even challenged a lot in the tough conditions.

India played all their games at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The conditions there demanded pacers more than spinners in the game as the track had a lot of help for the fast bowlers, which didn't allow the team to play spinners in the XI.

Ahead of the tournament, it was expected that Kuldeep Yadav was expected to be a definite starter in the team but the conditions didn't allow the team to unleash him. But with India now slated to play all their games in the Carribean, where conditions favor spin, it is likely that Kuldeep might play.

Kuldeep Yadav for the last few years has been India's best spinner. He has been one of the major reasons behind India's success in all three formats of the game. With the crucial stage of the tournament around the corner, the leg-spinner will be a vital cog in the wheel for the team.

Rahul Dravid stated that it was tough for them to leave out Kuldeep Yadav but conditions didn't allow them. He stated that they would look into the possibility of playing wrist spinners in the team. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

"Tough to leave anyone out. All four being left out do possess the quality. But conditions were in favour of pacers. If we feel the need to play an extra spinner in Kuldeep and Yuzi we will give it a thought."

Yes wrist spinners will come into play - Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid further admitted that spinners will come into play in the second leg of the T20 World Cup now. He highlighted how they had eight batting options in New York and claimed that wrist spinners would be getting chances. He added:

"Spinners come into play - We picked the squad keeping in mind all kinds of options. In NY we had eight batting options. Yes, wrist spinners will come into play."

India would be high on confidence going into the Super 8 stage of the tournament. They will be locking horns with Afghanistan in their first game on 20th June and would be eager to start their campaign on high. They also have Yuzvendra Chahal in the mix along with Kuldeep Yadav. It remains to be seen what combination will India opt for in their first game of the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Afghanistan will be hosting Bangladesh for a limited-overs series against Bangladesh in July. The series is scheduled to be played at the Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida.

According to a report in Sportstar, the teams are scheduled to play three ODIs and as many T20Is against each other in the forthcoming series. The series will be taking place from July 25 to August 6. Bangladesh will be arriving in Greater Noida via New Delhi on July 22 and will train for two days before the first ODI takes place.

The venue in Greater Noida will be hosting an international game for the first time since 2020. Not very long ago, it was the home base for Afghanistan but in recent times, they have played their home games in the United Arab Emirates. However, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) officials met the BCCI officials during the ODI World Cup last year and expressed their desire to play the home games in India again.

"We have closely worked with the BCCI to resume our hosting agreement, making this series possible after a long break," ACB CEO Naseeb Khan told Sportstar.

"The BCCI has allotted us two grounds - one in Kanpur and the other in Greater Noida. Since we have played at Greater Noida in the past, we decided to host the series against Bangladesh there," Khan added.

According to Sportstar, the first ODI between Afghanistan and Bangladesh is scheduled to take place on July 25 while the next two games will be held on July 27 and 30. The T20I series will be played from August 2. The second and third T20Is are scheduled to be played on August 6.

Meanwhile, both Afghanistan and Bangladesh are currently in the Caribbeans for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Both the teams have qualified for the Super 8s and are drawn in Group 1 alongside India and Australia.

India women's vs South Africa women's second ODI saw history getting scripted as four of the batters Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp slammed centuries. The match between the two teams took place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

With Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Laura Wolvaardt, and Marizanne Kapp registering centuries in the second ODI at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, it marked a historic feat. This was the first time that four women players had scored centuries in the same ODI.

Asked to bat first, Indian women had a sensational start with the bat. Smriti Mandhana stole the limelight at the top. She struggled to get going at the top as he didn't open her account in the first 18 balls. But after that, she held her nerves pretty well and batted like a dream.

Smriti Mandhana, who scored a century in the last game, slammed the second consecutive century of the series. She ended with an inning of 136 runs off 120 balls. She batted with a strike rate of over 113 and also hit 18 fours and 2 sixes in her innings, helping the team go past 300 runs on the board.

She was supported equally well by her skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who played an aggressive innings and made sure that she finished the innings on high. She scored unbeaten 103 runs off 88 balls and hit 9 fours and 3 sixes in her innings, helping India post a total of 325 runs on the board.

In the second innings, Laura Wolvaardt came up with a similar kind of effort as that of Smriti Mandhana. They lost early wickets but the opening batter made sure that she kept her team in the hunt and carried her bat through. She ended with the innings of unbeaten 135 runs off 135 runs with the help of 12 fours and 3 sixes.

Marizanne Kapp was another shining light for South African women as she also slammed a magnificent ton. The batter scored 114 runs off 94 balls and also hit 11 fours and 3 sixes in her innings. She along with the skipper added 184 runs but couldn't take the team home as India won by just 4 runs.

I think 4 runs is heartbreaking - Laura Wolvaardt

South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt talked about the close defeat to India, saying that it is a heartbreaking loss for them but she is proud of the way her team played. She also talked about the areas they lacked and while speaking to broadcasters, she explained:

"I think 4 runs is heartbreaking, especially in a 300-run chase, but from the halfway mark, I'm extremely proud of the way we fought, especially the way Kapp played and at how the rest of the batters followed up in the chase. It was a bit difficult, the fielding wasn't great.

"You can look back at each little thing in a 4-run loss, it's annoying but we can look back at one of the best batting efforts. I will try to switch off, have a good sleep tonight."
