RCB and Matthew Hayden

Former Australian batter and commentator Matthew Hayden reflected on Royal Challengers Bangaluru’s (RCB) four-wicket loss to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2024 Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, May 22.

Hayden stressed that Virat Kohli can’t be blamed for the RCB's heartbreaking loss to RR in the IPL 2024 Eliminator in Ahmedabad. The legendary Australian cricketer praised Kohli’s dedication and impactful game throughout the match.

Matthew Hayden hails Virat Kohli's heroics in IPL 2024

The commentator also hailed the exceptional fielding abilities of Kohli, who was the master behind RCB’s revival this season. In the match, the RCB opener showcased his remarkable fielding skills with a brilliant run out of Royals batter Dhruv Jurel.

Kohli achieved an incredible milestone during his knock of 33 runs and 24 balls against RR, becoming the first player to score 8000 runs in the IPL and Hayden called it a ridiculous achievement while praising the Indian batting master.

Furthermore, Hayden lauded Kohli's competitive spirit, leadership, and consistent performance for RCB in the IPL 2024. The right-handed player seemed to be on a mission the way he was hungry for runs this season, and then his dynamic presence on the field played a key role in RCB making the IPL 2024 Playoffs from the position where they were to be eliminated too early in the tournament.

RCB's loss to RR has nothing to do with Virat Kohli: Matthew Hayden

Matthew Hayden said on Star Sports: “OK, look for on this loss has nothing to do with Kohli. You know, he's put his absolute heart and soul on the line. And even when you think about his fielding effort tonight, that was a brilliant run out of Jurel. So, you know, for me, those numbers are ridiculous. 8000. That's a lot of T20 runs.

I also love that about Virat Kohli. Competitive spirit matters. Have a look at this off-balance, right on the money to Cameron Green and another superb piece of effort. I mean, that's competition. You want someone like him who's a franchise leader, and you want him in your team 100 percent. He just keeps churning out runs. He's actually been better this season.”

Virat Kohli has been amazing with the bat this season, amassing 741 runs in 15 matches at an impressive strike rate of 154. Kohli has frequently led the RCB to win single-handedly in the tournament. The Indian star will next be seen in action for the Men in Blue at the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.

Kohli will soon head to the USA and the Caribbean with the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024, where they will kick off their campaign against Ireland on June 5 in New York. The RCB opener is likely to play as an opener alongside Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the tournament, given his red-hot form in the IPL 2024, and Yashasvi Jaiswal has not yet fired up with the bat.

Andy Flower

Former Zimbabwe cricketer and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) coach Andy Flower has ruled out any possibility of contending for the position of the next India men's cricket team head coach. Andy Flower said that he hasn’t applied for the position of India’s head coach and would not be applying.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier this month invited applications for the men's team's head coach position as Rahul Dravid's tenure is set to conclude after the upcoming T20 World Cup. Several foreign cricketers are considered potential front-runners for this much-coveted position.

Rahul Dravid has served as the head coach since November 2021. Dravid signed a two-year contract, but he received a short-term extension after India's loss in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia. The former Indian captain will oversee the proceedings at the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in June.

I Have Not Applied - Andy Flower

During the post-match press conference, Andy Flower was asked about applying for the role of India men's cricket team head coach. Flower stated that he has no intention of applying for the role. He expressed satisfaction with his current involvement in franchise leagues at the moment.

"I have not applied and I would not be applying for the job. I am happy with my involvement in the franchise league at the moment. I am really enjoying it. It is fascinating stuff and I have worked with some amazing organizations and I am happy with that at the moment," Flower said.

Andy Flower served as the head coach of the England team from 2009 to 2014. Flower achieved significant success during his tenure, guiding England to their first T20 World Cup win in 2010 and securing four Ashes victories. He also led England to the number-one spot in the ICC Test rankings in 2011.

The former cricketer has extensive experience working with various franchises in T20 leagues worldwide. The 56-year-old coached the Trent Rockets to a title win 'The Hundred' in 2022. Flower coached the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the first two editions, guiding them to the playoffs both times.

Almost Be The Biggest Job In Cricket - Justin Langer

Earlier, Justin Langer acknowledged the role of the head coach of the Indian cricket team as potentially the biggest job in cricket. However, the former Australia coach confirmed that he isn't willing to take up the role considering the requirement of being with the team for 10 months annually.

“It would almost be the biggest job in cricket — being the head coach of the Indian cricket team. One, because of the huge volume of cricket, the huge expectation. It would be a great challenge. It would be great fun and it would be a wonderful opportunity to win ICC titles,” Langer said.

“But with all these things, the timing has got to be right. I did four or so years with the Australian cricket team. It is all-encompassing. It is exhausting,” he added.

Rajasthan Royals and CSK fans

The Rajasthan Royals X (formerly Twitter) admin did not hold back after the 2008 champions defeated RCB in the Eliminator match last night.

Bengaluru were coming at the back of 7 wins on the trot in the IPL 2024 league stages which was the main reason why they qualified for the play-offs. However, Faf du Plessis' side once again choked at the wrong time as the slightly out-of-form Rajasthan Royals team came out on top by 4 wickets at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rajasthan Royals will now be taking on the Sunrisers Hyderabad tomorrow at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai for the 2nd qualifier match. If Rajasthan wins, then it will be their 2nd appearance in an IPL final across the last 3 seasons. Back in 2022, they had reached their first finale since the 2008 season and it remains to be seen if they can reach another one this season.

How did Rajasthan Royals troll RCB using CSK fan's post?

The Rajasthan Royals chose a very unique way to take a jibe at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru following the latter team's loss in the Eliminator match. They took reference to the tweet made by a CSK fan who was present at the Narendra Modi stadium last night.

Thank you to each and every fan in Pink (and all other colours) for their support last night. 💗 pic.twitter.com/NMEvfAl0sJ

— Rajasthan Royals (@rajasthanroyals) May 23, 2024

To give some context, fans of CSK were extremely sad and disappointed after RCB denied them the opportunity to enter the IPL 2024 final. What was more questionable to them was the wild celebrations of Virat Kohli and other Bengaluru players who acted as if they won the Indian Premier League title.

Therefore, the CSK fans backed the Rajasthan Royals to stop RCB from reaching the finale and take revenge on their behalf by defeating Bengaluru. Amid the match, a fan tweeted, "Yellow army always with you" with a picture of 3 Chennai fans wearing the yellow jersey.

In that very context, the Rajasthan Royals posted a picture of their fans wearing the Pink jersey, and between them was a CSK fan holding the RR flag. In the caption, the Royals expressed their gratitude towards their fan for turning up in Pink and also in other colors to make sure Rajasthan is going through.

"Thank you to each and every fan in Pink (and all other colors) for their support last night."

How did the fans react?

Fans below the Rajasthan Royals' post on X have come up with hilarious reactions with most of them also trolling the Bengaluru-based franchise. There were a couple of CSK fans who had similar thoughts, claiming that they wanted to see RR beat RCB in the Eliminator and also beat KKR in the finals. Another fan thanked Rajasthan Royals for saving humanity by beating RCB.

Ricky Ponting

Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting admitted to being approached by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the Indian cricket team's head coach role. However, Ricky Ponting confirmed that he declined the offer due to his current commitments and to spend time with his family.

Ricky Ponting has been serving as head coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The former cricketer failed to guide the franchise to the title. DC reached the final in 2020 but suffered a loss to the Mumbai Indians (MI). The team didn't qualify for the playoffs in the last three seasons.

The World Cup-winning captain also had captaincy stints with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The 49-year-old was part of Australia's support staff on a full-time basis during the 2019 World Cup. However, Ponting has yet to commit to the demanding role of coaching a national team on a full-time basis.

There Were A Few Little One-On-One Conversations - Ricky Ponting

In an episode of the ICC Review, Ricky Ponting stated that coaching a national team would require him to give up coaching in the IPL and be away from home for a long time. Ponting said that he would love to be a senior coach, but his current lifestyle doesn't align with the demands of the role.

"I've seen a lot of reports about it. Normally these things pop up on social media before you even know about them, but there were a few little one-on-one conversations during the IPL, just to get a level of interest from me as to whether I would do it,” Ponting told the ICC.

"I'd love to be a senior coach of a national team, but with the other things that I have in my life and wanting to have a bit of time at home…everyone knows if you take a job working with the Indian team you can't be involved in an IPL team, so it would take that out of it as well."

"Also, a national head coach is a 10 or 11-month-of-the-year job, and as much as I'd like to do it, it just doesn't fit into my lifestyle right now and the things that I really enjoy doing,"
he added.

The application deadline for the head coach of the Indian cricket team closes on May 27, the day after the IPL final. Rahul Dravid is unlikely to reapply for the position after the T20 World Cup. Mahela Jayawardene, Stephen Fleming, Gautam Gambhir, and Justin Langer are being considered for the position.

The next head coach will receive a three-and-a-half-year contract, extending until the end of the next ODI World Cup in 2027. The Indian board is seeking a coach to oversee all formats rather than opting for split coaching arrangements as seen in other countries like England, South Africa, and Pakistan.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli was absolutely dejected after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru officially exited from the IPL 2024 edition from the Eliminator stage.

The RCB had squared up with the Rajasthan Royals last night at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad with an aim to keep their unbeaten streak alive. Bengaluru was on a run of 7 wins back-to-back after going winless for almost a month in the first half of IPL 2024.

Bengaluru had won just 1 game out of their first 8 matches home and away but in the second half, they turned up with a different mindset. Virat Kohli, who was anyways in supreme form this season and is certain to win the Orange Cap, was the one who inspired and pushed the team to turn things around for themselves and their self-respect.

That's what exactly happened but RCB won't be winning the coveted and elusive IPL title this season as well.

Virat Kohli reflects on Bengaluru's season after the loss

While speaking in the latest video on RCB's official X handle, Virat Kohli had quite a few things to say about how the season went for the team. Kohli started off by highlighting Bengaluru's performance in the early days of the season when they were absolutely down and out; and weren't able to win a single game.

Unfortunately, sport is not a fairytale and our remarkable run in #IPL2024 came to an end. Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik express their emotions and thank fans for their unwavering support. ❤️#PlayBold #ನಮ್ಮRCB pic.twitter.com/FYygVD3UiC

— Royal Challengers Bengaluru (@RCBTweets) May 23, 2024

Virat Kohli kept it very honest that despite having high standards as cricketers, none of the players were able to live up to it. The 36-year-old revealed that the team was very low on confidence and they needed a push to turn the tables. That's when they decided to play for their own pride and self-respect and it was something that gave the players a lot of confidence about themselves.

It was because of that confidence, that the Royal Challengers were able to pick themselves up, express and win matches. The back-to-back in their last 7 games was truly something special and it is a memory that Virat Kohli will cherish forever. He also appreciated his teammates for their character and braveness to make sure the team didn't get kicked out of the league stages.

"To be very honest, the first half of the season was really underpar performance from us. The standards that we have as cricketers, we were not living up to the standards."

"You know we just started expressing ourselves, started playing for our own self-respect, and then the confidence came back, and the way we turned things around and qualified was truly special, something that I will always cherish and remember because it took a lot of character and heart from each member of the team." - Virat Kohli said.

What next for Virat Kohli?

Virat Kohli is now expected to join the first batch of the Indian team, which is set to fly over to the USA on May 25th for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. RCB's exit from IPL 2024 is a confirmation that the batting stalwart will join the likes of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah in the flight to New York.
