Sourav Ganguly, the current President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has confirmed the apex cricketing body’s plans to stage the Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy, ending all the speculations about the board not having any concrete plans in place for the Women in Blue.

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to take place in the United Arab Emirates between September 19 to November 8 or 10 [the final date is yet to be locked in].

“I can confirm to you that the women’s IPL is very much on and we do have a plan in place for the national team also,” Ganguly told PTI ahead of the IPL Governing Council meeting later on Sunday.

“The women’s Challenger series is likely to be held between November 1-10 and there could be a camp before that,” the source said.

Sourav Ganguly also added that the centrally contracted women players will have a camp, which was delayed due to the steadily escalating Covid-19 situation in the country.

“We couldn’t have exposed any of our cricketers – be it male or female to health risk. It would have been dangerous. The NCA also remained shut because of Covid-19. But we have a plan in place and we will have a camp for women, I can tell you that.” Sourav Ganguly said.

Meanwhile, the BCCI cricket operations team is also chalking out a plan that could see the Indian women team playing two full-fledged series against South Africa in October and West Indies [after the Challenger Trophy] before traveling to New Zealand for the 50-over World Cup.

Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary Sachin Tendulkar, was surprisingly omitted from all the four squads for the 2019 Under-19 Challenger Trophy, The BCCI announced the squads on Saturday with 14 players in each squad.

However, Arjun could not make it to any of the squads despite his recent impressive outings. Arjun had recently impressed in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. The left-arm pacer had bagged the figures of 5/30 to help Mumbai thrash Gujarat by 9 wickets. He had also taken 3 for just 14 runs off seven overs in Mumbai’s 10-wicket win over Assam.

Earlier this week, he had taken six wickets for 70 runs while playing for Vijay Merchant XI against Vijay Manjrekar XI in the KC Mahindra Shield U-19 tournament. Prior to that, he had announced his arrival to the Indian cricketing arena by earning his maiden call-up from India’s Under-19 team. He was a part of the team for the Youth Tests in Sri Lanka. Arjun had gone on the make a name for himself by claiming his first wicket in his very first over.

But all his exploits did not help him make it to the squad for the Under-19 Challenger Trophy.
