Notably, the Afghanistan team has shown dominance since the start of the ongoing T20 World Cup in 2024. They began their campaign with a commanding 125-run victory over Uganda and continued their streak with an 84-run win against New Zealand. Then, Afghanistan secured their place in the Super 8s by defeating Papua New Guinea by 7 wickets.

Interestingly, Afghanistan's win over New Zealand not only earned them a place in the Super 8s but also ended New Zealand's journey in the tournament. They will now play their final group match against the West Indies on June 18 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has tightened its stance on the national players’ participation in overseas T20 leagues after the national team's disappointing exit from the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and Caribbean.

After Pakistan National Cricket Team's failure to qualify for the Super-8 round of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, PCB has reaffirmed its two-NOCs (No Objection Certificate) policy for the overseas T20 leagues.

According to this policy, Pakistani players under central and domestic contracts can only receive NOCs for a maximum of two foreign leagues per year, in addition to their commitments in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

PCB implements stricter rules on players' participation in overseas T20 leagues

With this move, PCB aims to ensure that the players prioritize national duty and maintain fitness standards crucial for international competitions, as they are facing embarrassment for ending their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in the first round in the USA.

Notably, youngsters Azam Khan and Saim Ayub, both of whom are part of Pakistan's 2024 T20 World Cup squad, have not received NOCs to participate in the next edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in the West Indies, despite being retained by their respective teams in the league.

PCB made it clear that they would not be issued, prioritizing their availability for domestic and international fixtures. The Pakistani board doesn’t want to take any potential risks to players' workload and fitness by playing in numerous franchise leagues across the world.

An official source in the PCB was quoted as saying by PTI: “The other players have also been given a clear message that the two NOC’s rule applies to both centrally and domestic contracted players and the board also reserves the right to turn down any NOC request from any player.”

Pakistan leg-spinner Usama Mir encountered an issue with the PCB recently when he sought a NOC to participate in England's Vitality Blast and The Hundred tournaments.

He was clearly informed by the PCB that he had already utilized his allowance of two league participations for the year under their policy, so they will not allow him to play in the ECB’s upcoming competitions.

The source added, “Mir took the argument that since he was free of any international commitments and there was no domestic event he should be allowed to play in England, he was told in clear terms this is not for him but for the board to decide.”

Notably, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan cricket team’s hopes to qualify for the Super-8 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 were ruined after the USA vs IRE clash at the Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Florida, was washed out on Friday.

The bad weather allowed the USA to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the ongoing tournament with the two teams sharing points, ending Pakistan’s campaign in the first round of the mega event. They will play their last match in the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 16 in Florida.

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has backed Virat Kohli to bounce back after a poor start to his campaign in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The right-handed batsman was promoted to open the innings in the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup but has not managed to justify the call so far. After a stellar campaign in this year's IPL, Kohli has struggled to replicate that performance in the T20 World Cup.

In three games so far, he has managed to score only five runs. He began his campaign with a 5-ball 1-run knock against Ireland before being dismissed for 4 against Pakistan. In the third game against the USA, he could not even open his account and was dismissed for a golden duck.

While everything has gone well for Team India so far, Virat Kohli's poor form will be a big concern for them ahead of the Super 8s. However, Sunil Gavaskar believes the India star's form is not a concern and backed him to return to form soon.

"These are early days in the tournament, there's still a lot of the tournament to go. Suddenly everything can't go wrong just because the man has got three low scores. It doesn't mean that he is not batting well. Sometimes you get a good delivery. Nothing to worry about," Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports.

"When you're playing for any team, when you're playing for your country, there's no greater motivation. He has done so well for India over the years. He has performed well in so many matches. Basically, we have to show faith in him. He has enough faith in himself. We must believe that he will come good sooner than later," he added.

The 33rd game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 between India and Canada has been abandoned without a ball being bowled. The game was scheduled to be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida.

This is the third game in the ongoing T20 World Cup that has been abandoned without a ball being bowled and incidentally, all the games were scheduled to be held in Lauderhill. Earlier this week, the game between Sri Lanka and Nepal was abandoned as well. The washed-out game resulted in Sri Lanka getting knocked out of the tournament.

On Friday (June 14), the game between USA and Ireland was abandoned as well. As a result, the USA qualified for the Super 8s while Pakistan were knocked out. Unlike the last two washouts, the latest washout won't make any impact on the team's fate as India had already qualified for the Super 8s while Canada were knocked out.

The umpires and the ground-staff members tried their best for the game between India and Canada to begin but eventually gave up due to the wet outfield. After an inspection at around 9:00 PM (IST), the umpires spoke to the chief groundsman before deciding to call off the game.

India and Canada's run so far:

Team India have finished their group stage campaign unbeaten. The Men in Blue began their campaign with an 8-wicket win over Ireland before beating arch-rivals Pakistan by 6 runs in a thrilling clash. In the third game, India thrashed the USA by seven wickets to confirm their spot in the Super 8s. After playing all of their group stage games in the USA, India will now be playing their Super 8s games in the Caribbeans.

He believes that Arshdeep Singh along with Jasprit Bumrah and Pandya as third pacer will be good for India. He added:

"Yes, batting needs to come to the fore because there will be a time in the knockout games when his batting will be required. By that time, hopefully, he will get some runs which he’s not got so far. But him being in the form as a bowler is so crucial because by the time we go to West Indies, you might wanna get in Kuldeep and when you’re getting Kuldeep one of the fast bowlers goes out. Three fast bowlers firing all cylinders will be really good for the Indian team."

Kuldeep Yadav hasn't played a single game so far in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. But with the Super 8 stage set to take place in the Carribean, he is likely to find a place in the team as pitches favor spin there.

Ravi Shastri has revealed just how committed Rishabh Pant was to return to high-profile cricket after being on the sidelines for more than a year.

The wicketkeeper-batsman was out of action for almost a year and a half as he recovering from the injuries that he sustained in the horrific car accident in December 2022. He did not play a single game in 2023 and also missed the home series against Afghanistan and England this year before making his much-awaited return to action in the IPL.

Many were expecting him to only bat in the IPL at least in the early stages but Rishabh Pant left the cricketing world stunned by playing as a wicketkeeper from the very first game. He went on to enjoy a fine campaign in the IPL to earn a place in the India squad for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. In the IPL, he scored 466 runs in 13 games with the help of 3 fifties.

He has looked in good form in the T20 World Cup as well. While many expected Sanju Samson to get the nod as the wicketkeeper-batsman, the team management showed faith in Rishabh Pant and he has very much justified the decision so far,

After scoring 53 in the warm-up game against Bangladesh, the southpaw scored an unbeaten 36 against Ireland in India's tournament opener. He then scored 42 against Pakistan and was India's top scorer in the match.

Speaking on Star Sports, Ravi Shastri opened up on the remarkable commitment shown by Rishabh Pant for his swift return to international cricket. The former India allrounder and head coach praised Pant for his hard work and revealed that the Delhi star was carrying his own chef during the IPL to stay in shape.

"I think he (Rishabh) has been most impressive, batting everybody new. But his keeping range of movement has been fabulous. As he said, 'Not often do you get two opportunities. God doesn't give you two opportunities to live'.

"It's literally God telling him, You're too young to come upstairs. Why don't you stay downstairs, play your cricket, and we'll see you later, and he's given him that opportunity. He's realised that, and he's worked his backside off," Shastri said.

"For me, the first impression when I saw Rishabh was all trimmed up. Ricky (Ponting) mentioned he was with DC and that he was carrying his own chef. So it is that awareness that he has come to play at the highest level and come back and do the things he was doing, or even better. He's got to work really, really hard.

"So realisation has sunk in, and it's made all the difference and is fabulous. You can see what X factor he brings in with the bat, I thought his keeping has been that that's something that surprised everyone. Especially the footwork, the way he's moving behind the stump... Not easy. 18 months before, when you saw him in hospital, you know, you would never have imagined he would come back and play," Shastri added.

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi talked about the criticism that Babar Azam is facing in the ongoing T20 World 2024. He said that people can always criticise him for his leadership but he has been a consistent batter for the Pakistan team despite not being a matchwinner like Virat Kohli.

All the tides have turned against Babar Azam as the Pakistan skipper has come under serious scanner after the team's debacle in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Under his leadership, the Men in Green faced an early exit from the tournament as they failed to reach the Super 8 stage of the event.

Babar Azam as a captain first failed to win the game against the United States of America. It was rated as one of the biggest upsets in cricketing history. After that Pakistan lost the game to India from the winning position and then it dented their chances to qualify for the Super 8.

On the batting front, Babar Azam has failed as a batter as well. He has compiled just 91 runs in three innings at a strike rate of around 104. His poor batting performance was one of the main reasons why Pakistan got eliminated from the tournament in the league stage itself.

Shahid Afridi admitted that Babar Azam hasn't performed in the World Cups but he has developed himself. While talking about his leadership, he criticized Batter, saying that he hasn't won anything in the last 3-4 years, and questioned the selection committee for naming him captain again. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:

"Fellow cricket lovers on social media should criticise Babar’s captaincy but consistent players like him are rare in Pakistan cricket. Babar’s performances have been good. Yeah, indeed, he hasn’t been able to perform in the World Cup. I’ve always wished to see Babar emerge as a matchwinner as we talk about Virat Kohli. He wasn’t a matchwinner from day 1 but he has developed himself.

"Babar Azam is being criticised. It happens because he’s the captain. I am an admirer of Babar (but) he’s been given 3-3.5 years as captain and there hasn’t been any eye-catching result nor there has been any improvement. The first question to the selection committee is that when he didn’t show any improvement (before), (why) he was reappointed as captain?"

Shahid Afridi further while talking about poor captaincy added that a leader's decision matters a lot and Babar Azam has been unable to improve. He elaborated:

"As a player, we have never criticised Babar but only his captaincy. A leader’s decision matters a lot – it can change the outcome of a match, and a captain should be able to engage with players. So these are few things Babar has been unable to improve on".

Shahid Afridi further questioned Babar Azam's reappointment as captain of the team, claiming that Mohammad Rizwan was the best choice as captain. He also stated that Babar should've supported Shaheen Afridi when he was appointed as the captain of the team.
