Ireland National Cricket Team

Ireland takes on Pakistan in their last league game in Florida on Sunday, June 16. The match starts from 8 pm IST which is 10.30 am local time.

Ireland have lost games against India and Canada. Their match against USA ended in a washout after rain played spoilsport in the second straight game in Florida. This is the last game for both teams and hence a must-win to stay alive in the race for the Super 8s. Ireland's previous match against the USA ended in a washout.

The inclement weather in Florida has been a massive subject of debate. It has already washed out two back-to-back games and this is a crucial game for both sides. Ireland are winless in the tournament so far and their loss to Canada will come back to haunt them.

Ireland have found it tough to win a game yet in this tournament. Their skipper Paul Stirling has not been good with the bat so far. The likes of Andrew Balbirnie and Harry Tector too have not batted well. It needs to be a cumulative effort from this Irish side to bat Pakistan if the weather permits.

Ireland Playing 11 vs Pakistan - ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Match 36

Paul Stirling (C)

Stirling will open the batting for Ireland. The skipper has been well short of runs in this tournament so far and will need to step up in this big game.

Andrew Balbirnie

Balbirnie the former skipper will open the batting with Stirling. He scored 17 in the previous match against Canada. He too has been in very poor form.

Harry Tector

Tector will slot in at three. He is being seen as the next batting talent in Irish Cricket. However, he does not have scores to back his talent.

Lorcan Tucker (WK)

Tucker will slot in at three. He is a very good player of spin and a naturally attacking batter. He also plays around T20 leagues all around the world.

Curtis Campher

Campher the seam bowling all-rounder will slot in at five. He is not among the top run-scorers list of the wicket-takers list. He has a reputation of being a clean striker of the ball.

George Dockrell

Dockrell is the spin-bowling all-rounder who will slot in at six. He has been playing for Ireland for over a decade and is inching closer to 100 T20I wickets and 1500 T20I runs. He scored 30 in the match against Canada.

Gareth Delany

He is another batting all-rounder who bowls a bit of leg spin. He is five away from 50 T20I wickets. Thus Ireland is looking to make a nice mix of bowling combinations.

Mark Adair

Mark Adair is the leader of the bowling attack. He scored 34 off 24 balls in the match against Canada and picked up 1 wicket in the match. Adair has picked up 121 wickets.

Barry McCarthy

McCarthy will be the left-arm swing bowler. He has picked up 53 T20I wickets and has been expensive with his economy rates as well. None of the Irish bowlers are on the list of top wicket-takers.

Craig Young

Young is another right-arm pacer for Ireland. He bowled a good spell against Canada picking up two for 33. He has picked up 75 T20I wickets.

Josh Little

Little concludes the likely playing XI for Pakistan. He is the most known Ireland pacer in the side having played T20 leagues across the globe. He went wicketless in the last game.

Ahmed Shehzad, Pakistan, Babar Azam, ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Former Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad took a brutal dig at Babar Azam, the Pakistan team, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after Pakistan failed to qualify for the Super 8 round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Ahmed Shehzad posted a tweet on X where he reckoned that the Pakistan team did not deserve to qualify.

Pakistan has been eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after the USA vs Ireland match was washed out due to rain. The Babar Azam-led side is part of Group A in the tournament with India, USA, Ireland, and Canada in their pool.

The Men-in-Green faced a shocking defeat against amateur USA in their opening match. Later, they also lost their next encounter against India by 6 runs. The USA won their first two games in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against Canada and Pakistan and needed one more victory to reach the Super 8 round.

IRE vs USA was washed out due to rain

Although the co-hosts lost to India in their third game, they had one more clash against Ireland. The USA vs Ireland clash was washed out due to rain and it cleared the way for USA's entry into the next round. After four matches, the USA has gained 5 points while Pakistan still has 2 points with a lone victory against Canada.

India has also confirmed their top spot in Group A with a total of 6 points with three wins. India is set to play one more game against Canada. However, regardless of the result, India and USA will be the two teams from Group A who will play in the Super 8 round.

Ahmed Shehzad attacks Babar Azam-led Pakistan team on X after TC WC exit

Former Pakistan star batter Ahmed Shehzad Shahzad has attacked the Pakistan team with a brutal tweet after their elimination in the T20 World Cup 2024. Shahzad said the deserving team has reached the Super 8 round from Group A and Pakistan did not deserve to qualify.

He also made fun of the fact that Pakistan depended on Ireland to get a spot in the next round. Have a look at his tweet below.

The deserving team is through to Super 8 round. If you're depending on Ireland to defeat someone, you seriously don't deserve to qualify. Don't think even "Kudrat Ka Nizam" works for those who are not deserving or ready to improve. All eyes on PCB chairman now! #T20WorldCup

— Ahmad Shahzad 🇵🇰 (@iamAhmadshahzad) June 14, 2024

"The deserving team is through to the Super 8 round. If you're depending on Ireland to defeat someone, you seriously don't deserve to qualify, he posted on X.

"Don't think even "Kudrat Ka Nizam" works for those who are not deserving or ready to improve. All eyes on PCB chairman now! #T20WorldCup", he further added.

Ahmed Shehzad criticized Pakistan players for fooling fans

Ahmed Shehzad has been very vocal about Babar Azam’s poor captaincy and the Pakistan team’s poor show in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Recently during a news show, he criticized the Pakistan team and players for fooling Pakistan cricket fans.

He revealed that the board has hired agencies to create fake stories about players to gain the sympathy of fans. He gave examples of recent stories where some Pakistan players could not sleep or could not eat after their defeat against the USA and India. The video also went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will now clash with Ireland in their last match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Pakistan vs Ireland game takes place at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday, June 16.

Harbhajan Singh, Virat Kohli, ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has backed Virat Kohli’s poor record with the bat in the first three games of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Harbhajan Singh feels it would be wrong to judge any Indian batters due to the pitch conditions.

India has played all three games in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, USA. The ground has emerged low-scoring one and batters from all teams have struggled to pile up runs. For instance, the top-ever team total team total at the stadium was 137 by Canada.

Team India won all of their games at the stadium in low-scoring encounters. Moreover, Virat Kohli failed to give decent starts in all three games. Virat Kohli got out for 1,4, and 0 against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA respectively.

Notably, his opening partner Rohit Sharma also failed to get a good knock in the last two games. However, he slammed a half-century in the opening game against Ireland. Therefore, Kohli is yet to fire as an opener with the bat in T20 World Cup 2024.

Virat Kohli didn't score runs because of conditions: Harbhajan Singh

During a conversation on Star Sports, former cricketer-turned-commentator Harbhajan Singh was asked about Virat Kohli's poor scores in the T20 World Cup 2024. The former off-spinner feels it would be wrong to judge any Indian batter with the kind of pitch in the first three games.

"I will get a lot of shortcomings if I try to find them on that pitch, but I do not want to judge anyone on that pitch because batting was difficult on that pitch. There was a lot of help for the bowlers. However, the one thing I would want to see is consistency," he said.

"Virat Kohli didn't score runs there because the conditions were like that. You cannot judge a player in those conditions. He has come here from there, his confidence will be high here. As Navjot Sidhu also said, all batters would have offered Prasad as they got rid of that pitch," he further added.

India to move to Florida for next clash against Canada

Indian team is all set to face Canada in their last Group A clash. The match shifts to a new venue as the IND vs CAN game is scheduled to be played at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.

Notably, it is the first and oldest ground in the USA and is considered a high-scoring one. Harbhajan Singh expects Kohli to come up with a powerful show in the IND vs CAN encounter.

"Runs are obviously expected from Virat Kohli here. Along with that, we need to consistently see partnerships which we weren't getting in the first six overs. Then your middle order is set", the former spinner further said.

Kohli plays an opener in T20 World Cup 2024

Interestingly, Kohli has left his one-down position in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and moved up the order as an opener. The Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli pair is yet to come up with a brilliant partnership.

With the new venue coming into the picture, the duo might come up with an outstanding stand for the opening wicket. Kohli and Sharma had a stunning form in IPL 2024 last month. While Kohli ended as the top run-getter in the tournament, Sharma slammed an IPL ton.

Matthew Wade

Australia vice-captain Matthew Wade sounded uncertain when talking about players who can possibly sit out when the Aussies play their final Group B game.

Australia are among the 6 teams, as of now, who have qualified for the next stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 - the Super 8s. This will be their first appearance in the second round of the T20 WC since the 2021 edition when they had become first-time T20 World Champions. They were led by Aaron Finch back then and now the onus is on Mitchell Marsh and Andrew McDonald's pairing.

But quite a lot will also depend upon wicket-keeper batsman and vice-skipper Matthew Wade's performance. He was monumental in Australia's charge to the 2021 T20 World title and if it wasn't for him in the semi-final against Pakistan, the Kangaroos would not have even reached the finale.

Matthew Wade had smashed 41* in the semi-final and something similar will be expected from him when the Aussies find themselves in a similar situation.

Matthew Wade hints that Cameron Green and Ashton Agar could be included against Scotland

In a recent interview, Matthew Wade was asked if the Aussie combination will be kept the same in their final Group B match against Scotland on June 16. Wade claimed that there is a potential talk about a change to give some of the players a few off days and include some players who will have a role to play later on in the tournament.

Matthew Wade named all-rounder Cameron Green and left-arm off-spinner Ashton Agar as the ones who can feature against Scotland in St. Lucia. Although nothing can be assured, Wade said that these are changes that can be implemented.

"Potentially. No, I'm not sure on the 11 whether or not some guys will have a rest. We haven't been in this position before, so I'm sure it'll be spoken about to maybe get some games into the guys that potentially might play down the road Green and Agar those guys may play a role as the tournament goes on so yeah, I'm sure to be spoken about whether or not the guys pull the trigger and go for it, I'm not sure, but we'll wait and see tomorrow I suppose," Wade said.

Wade reveals the atmosphere in Aussie dressing

As we all know, the Australian team are aiming to complete a historic treble of ICC trophies in the space of less than a year. In 2023, the Aussies captured two international titles - the World Test Championship and the Cricket World Cup title for the 6th time.

And with a new year, Australia have their eyes on a new prize and that is the T20 World Cup. Their bid to complete a treble will require the dressing room to be in sync and Matthew Wade has admitted that the team's mood is exactly how it should be.

"Yeah, we're having a good time. We're like, this environment now is, we're not a result driven team, we're more about the process and going away, going about it the way that we want to play in big tournaments and that's what we're doing, that's the pleasing thing," Matthew Wade concluded.

Dale Steyn

Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has praised Nepal for their impressive performance in their thrilling match against South Africa during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Dale Steyn stated that Nepal deserved to win the T20 World Cup Group D match against South Africa in the ICC T20 tournament.

Nepal suffered a heartbreaking one-run defeat in the 31st match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent, on Friday, June 14 (local time). Nepal was eliminated from the tournament after failing to chase down a below-par 115-run target in their third match in the World Cup.

Would’ve Been The Talk Of The Tournament - Dale Steyn

In a video shared by ICC on its Instagram handle, Dale Steyn stated that he is a big underdog fan and added that he wanted Nepal to win the match. Steyn noted the emotional intensity of the game, emphasizing that such matches capture the essence of cricket more than high-scoring games do.

"It was incredible to watch. I think it was the match of the tournament, to be honest with you. I'm a big underdog fan, so even being a South African, I was kind of like, 'Come on, Nepal!' You were spurring them on. But these nail-biting thrillers. I saw people crying in the stands; it shows how much it means to them, and that’s what cricket is all about. That's what cricket is all about. You know, not the two hundreds; this is what the game is about," Steyn said.

The former South African cricketer turned commentator described the thrilling encounter between Nepal and South Africa as the 'Match of the Tournament'. Steyn expressed that if Nepal had managed to win, it would have been the highlight of the tournament and added that they deserved the victory.

"It would’ve been the talk of the tournament if Nepal would’ve gotten over the line. It would’ve been fantastic, and they deserved to win," the former South African added.

Tim Southee

Veteran New Zealand pacer Tim Southee was named 'Player of the Match' for his exceptional three-wicket haul during his team’s dominant nine-wicket win over Uganda in their Group C match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago.

Southee expressed his disappointment at the Black Caps’ elimination from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 after their consistent performances over the past decade in the global tournament.

The New Zealand cricket team opened their account with a dominant nine-wicket victory against Uganda in their Group C match in Trinidad and Tobago on June 15, after their first two setbacks in the mega event.

Tim Southee shines with a three-wicket haul in New Zealand’s dominant win over Uganda

The fiery spells from pace duo Southee (3/4), Trent Boult (2/7), Mitchell Santner (1/8), and Rachin Ravindra (2/9) helped the Black Caps restrict Uganda to 40 inside 19 overs, while Kenneth Waiswa (11) managed to cross the 10-run mark in the match.

Later, Devon Conway’s unbeaten 22 runs guided the New Zealand team to an easy win over Uganda in the one-sided affair in Trinidad and Tobago. Finn Allen also contributed 9 runs off 17 balls to the team's stunning win over Uganda.

After the match on Saturday, Southee acknowledged the Kiwi team's clinical performance against Uganda, emphasizing the importance of winning the games despite their early exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. He noted that it was challenging to hit the stumps with variable bounce on a tricky pitch at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

Furthermore, Southee reflected on the New Zealand team's overall disappointment at being eliminated from the ongoing T20 World Cup after being outplayed in the first two games, which brought an end to their proud record in the World Cup.

Tim Southee drops major hint about his international future

Speaking about his future in international cricket, Southee stressed that he felt physically well after a refreshing break leading into the T20 World Cup and reaffirmed his love for playing cricket for New Zealand.

He expressed his passion for the game, hinting that fans might still see more of him on the international stage. The pacer said that he still enjoys having time on the field.

Tim Southee said in the post-match presentation: “It was a pretty clinical performance, was nice to get a win. It has been a bit tricky, just try to hit the stumps with variable bounce. We are disappointed to find ourselves out of the tournament. We were outplayed in the first two games; we have a proud record in World Cups and that has now come to an end. I got a nice break leading into this World Cup. My body is feeling well, I love playing for New Zealand. Dream to play cricket and I still enjoy it, so you never know.”

Notably, with this win over Uganda, New Zealand is in the third spot in the Group C points table with two points to their name from three games, losing two games against Afghanistan and the West Indies. However, the Black Caps are not in contention for the Super-8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup in 2024. They will play their final game in the tournament against Papua New Guinea (PNG) at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia on June 18.
