Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin has highlighted the lack of outrage over the USA being docked five runs during the game against India in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The T20 World Cup co-hosts became the very first team to be penalized under the new stop-clock regulations that have become a permanent feature in men's ODIs and T20Is from the start of this month. As per the new rule, the field team is required to start the next over within a minute of the conclusion of the previous over.

If the fielding team fails to comply, they will receive two warnings before the subsequent violations will result in a 5-run penalty. As a result, the USA were penalized five runs after they failed to start the next over in time for the third time in the game.

They suffered the penalty at a very crucial juncture in the game. India were in a spot of bother and needed 35 runs from the last 5 overs on a tough batting pitch. However, the penalty brought down the equation to run-a-ball and India went on to win the game by 7 wickets.

Ravichandran Ashwin unhappy over lack of outrage:

A couple of days after the incident in New York, Ravichandran Ashwin shared his views on the same. Not the one to mince his words, the India spin star recalled how there was a huge outrage all around after Angelo Mathews was given timed out during the game against Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup last year. Ashwin opined that there is no outrage over the recent incident because it favored the batting side.

"Now, they have given a five-run penalty. Some people said that they didn't understand anything. But, there is no outrage for this. In the same way, if the batsman comes to the crease late, you can appeal and get a wicket.

"They gave an out to Mathews in the 50-over World Cup. In the same way, if one side exploits the same rule it is not a big crime. Because it is an exploit in the bowling field. If it is exploited in the batting field, it becomes a big issue. I can't understand. I think there is a bias between both sides. Both departments of the game," Ravichandran Ashwin said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

"That is the only problem for me. Because a rule is a rule. If I know that this is a rule, if I make a mistake in that rule, I will get a penalty for those five runs. I deserve it. That's how I see it. They gave a rule, right? According to that rule, I have a duty to follow it. If I don't follow that rule, I am ready to face the consequences. In the same way, they gave a rule, and you should be ready to face the consequences," he added.

Meanwhile, India have already booked their place in the Super 8s of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. The USA can also join India in the next round if they manage to beat Ireland in their last group game.

USA qualify automatically for T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan knocked out

The teams that are currently vying for a spot in the Super 8s stage of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 have another reason to fight for a place in the next round. A spot in the top eight of the ongoing tournament will also earn them a spot in the next T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in India and Sri Lanka in 2026.

Just like the ongoing competition, a total of 20 teams will be participating in the next edition as well. Two of those 20 teams will be India and Sri Lanka as they will be qualifying automatically for being the co-hosts. India have already made it to the Super 8s of the ongoing tournament while Sri Lanka have failed to do so but they will be able to play in the next T20 World Cup.

Apart from the two co-hosts, the top eight teams of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 will be qualifying automatically as well. With India also in the Super 8s, a total of seven teams will be qualifying from this year's T20 World Cup.

They will be joined by the three highest-ranked teams on the ICC's T20I rankings as of June 30, 2024. It will take the number of teams to 12. The remaining eight spots will be decided through the ICC's regional qualifiers.

USA qualify for the next T20 World Cup:

USA have booked their place in the Super 8s of the ongoing T20 World Cup after their game against Ireland was washed out. As a result, they have qualified for the next T20 World Cup as well. They have joined India from Group A in the Super 8s while Pakistan, Ireland, and Canada have been eliminated.

It also means Pakistan will now have to ensure that they remain one of the three highest-ranked teams on the ICC's T20I rankings as of June 30 to gain automatic qualification. At present, they are at the fourth spot in the rankings and look set to make the cut.

Meanwhile, the other teams who have qualified for the Super 8s are Australia, Afghanistan, West Indies, and South Africa.

Pakistan, USA

Pakistan National Cricket Team have officially been knocked out of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This comes after the game between the United States of America and Ireland, slated to take place on Friday (14th June) got washed out due to the rain.

Pakistan's fate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was dependent on the result between the United States of America and Ireland. If the Irish team had won the game, it would've kept Babar Azam-led side in the tournament as they needed to win the match against Ireland to go through.

However, with the game between the USA and Ireland getting washed out, this means the Monak Patel-led side qualifies for the Super 8 stage of the tournament. They now have 5 points to their name and the maximum Pakistan can get to is 4 points as they have lost two games already.

Pakistan have been extremely poor in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Coming into the tournament, they looked like one of the hot favourites to win the title as many experts backed them to win the tournament. However, all the hopes have been shattered now.

Pakistan started off the tournament poorly as in what was the biggest upset in the history of the game, they suffered the loss to the United States of America (USA). They batted and bowled poorly but had the chance to win the game as it moved to Super over. But they failed to win that, resulting in a disappointing loss.

After that Pakistan played India and with the way they started the game, it seemed that they would win the game. They bundled out India for just 119 runs and then were cruising in the chase, needing 47 runs off 47 balls but they lost the match from there.

Two losses in the two games dented their chances and even though they won against Canada, it wasn't enough. United States of America on the other hand had bagged two wins with good margins and hence surpassed Pakistan to enter the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

They got knocked out because Pakistan lost to the USA - Wasim Jaffer

After Pakistan got eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024, Wasim Jaffer came up with a tweet, claiming that they didn't get knocked out because of a washout between the USA and Ireland. But because of their loss to the USA. He stated:

"Contrary to popular belief, Pakistan didn't get knocked out because USA v IRE got rained off. They got knocked out because Pakistan lost to the USA :)"

— Wasim Jaffer (@WasimJaffer14) June 14, 2024

Michael Vaughan also commented on Pakistan getting out of the T20 World Cup 2024 and said that they are a long way away from being a good white-ball side. He tweeted:

"USA through to the Super 8s … Cricket is going to catch on in the States… !! Pakistan is out … at the moment they are a long way off being a good white-ball side."

Virat Kohli, Umar Akmal and Kamran Akmal

Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal has come up with another brain fade statement about his brother Umar Akmal being better than Virat Kohli.

It was only earlier this week that Kamran Akmal had to apologize for his comments on Arshdeep Singh while commentating in the final over of IND-PAK in NY. His former Indian rival Harbhajan Singh called him out on X (formerly Twitter) after which Akmal took to the social media platform and made an apologetic tweet.

Just 4 days after his plea to Harbhajan Singh, Kamran Akmal has now taken a dig at Virat Kohli by comparing the latter with his younger brother. He made this statement once again in a studio of a local news channel and this one surely is his worst take on the former India captain.

Kamran Akmal says Pakistan doesn't have a better PR influence than Virat Kohli

While speaking to ARY News, Kamran Akmal claimed that he has got hold of some exclusive stats that support his younger brother is better than Kohli in T20 WCs. The former wicket-keeper batsman admitted that Umar is as good as Kohli's pinky finger due to the latter's stardom and consistent performances but it's his brother who has a better strike rate and even more runs.

This comes across as a little uncanny because Virat Kohli stands at the top as the highest run-scorer of the T20 World Cup history. But Kamran says Umar Akmal has more runs and to put into straight facts, he has 486 runs from 20 matches of the T20 World Cup. Kohli of course has more longevity than Akmal and so far he has scored 1146 runs in 10 more matches.

The strike rate is the only parameter in which Umar Akmal is better but it's not even that colossal. Kamran Akmal further said that Umar's stats are not so widespread because he doesn't have a PR media as good as Virat Kohli's.

"I had the stats yesterday, I'm talking about Virat Kohli Umar's (Akmal) T20 World Cup stats. And Umar is actually only equal to Virat's pinky finger due to his performance and stardom. (He) has a better strike rate than Virat Kohli and has scored more runs as well but we don't have a PR media and we don't spread our stats on social media." - Kamran Akmal said via ARY News.

Kami says Umar Akmal has better stats than Kohli in T20 world cups but he has no PR company pic.twitter.com/XW2Bzmriir

— Ghumman (@emclub77) June 14, 2024

Kamran says Umar could have caused an explosion in T20 World Cup 2024

While making a bridge of compliments for his brother, Kamran made an admission that Umar Akram would have been an explosive addition to the Pakistan team. That catastrophe would have taken place if he had been a part of the 15 men led by Babar Azam in the USA and West Indies.

"If that kind of a player could have joined these 15, then it would have been explosive but the say about Virat Kohli scoring 80 centuries and all that. This is how they play the game. If I show you the stats you will be shocked." - Kamran Akmal concluded.

Jasprit Bumrah

Former Indian cricketer Lakshmipathy Balaji has showered rich praise on Jasprit Bumrah, labeling him as the most complete fast bowler in contemporary cricket after his stunning performance for Team India in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

However, Bumrah's journey has not been without challenges. He suffered a stress reaction in his back, leading to surgery in New Zealand in March last year. This injury had kept him out of action for six months.

However, his comeback has been nothing short of spectacular, as he has been dominating across all formats, consistently proving his prowess against various oppositions.

Balaji further hailed Bumrah's exceptional versatility and effectiveness across all formats of the game, saying the Indian speedster consistently delivers outstanding performances, whether it’s Test cricket or white-ball formats.

The former Indian pacer mentioned that he’s adept at making early breakthroughs with the new ball, while his ability to reverse swing the old ball is unparalleled.

In the middle overs of the white-ball games, Bumrah’s variations and extensive skill set not only restrict the flow of runs but also make him a potent wicket-taker for the Men in Blue, and that’s what he is doing exceptionally well for them in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and Caribbean.

Furthermore, Balaji compared Bumrah to the legendary Pakistani pacer, Wasim Akram. He believes that if Bumrah can lead India to victory in the ongoing T20 World Cup in 2024, it will secure his legacy as Asia's second-greatest fast bowler after Akram.

Lakshmipathy Balaji was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times: “If Bumrah can bowl India to this T20 World Cup title, it will cement his legacy as Asia’s second-best fast bowler, after Wasim Akram. Wasim Bhai, the ultimate. They both have identical traits; they have changed the dynamics of fast bowling.”

Drawing parallels between Bumrah and Akram, Balaji highlighted their shared ability to revolutionize fast bowling without relying heavily on lower-body strength, unlike traditional greats such as Dennis Lillee and Malcolm Marshall.

The cricket pandit noted that both Akram and Bumrah make use of the power of their upper bodies, unlike Australians or West Indies bowlers, to trouble the batters.

Balaji added, “Historically, if you see, great fast bowlers use their lower body to gain momentum with their run-up, with their explosive approach to the crease that helps them generate ultimate pace—the Dennis Lillees, the Michael Holdings, the Malcolm Marshalls.”

He further explained that the Asian bowlers don’t have lower bodies as strong as the Australians or the West Indians, but both Wasim and Bumrah have used sport to become terrific fast bowlers, not athleticism.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling coach also mentioned that Bumrah and Akram's upper bodies are strong and they have hardly any follow-through, but they don’t gain anything in the run-up.

Balaji further added, “Everything happens from their hand to their wrist; the bowling arm is dominant, and they do everything with the bowling arm alone—the accuracy, the Yorker, the pace and changes of pace, the changes in angle—which is why they are able to take the pitch and the conditions out of the equation. Even on the most docile surface, they bring something extra with the ball because of the work they do with their upper body.”

The former Indian pacer also reiterated that Bumrah is the second-best pacer in the subcontinent after the former Pakistani skipper. Balaji also suggested that Bumrah, much like Akram, has the potential to achieve greatness over the next decade, particularly if he can help India win the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Balaji signed off by saying, “Bumrah is the next best on our continent, only after him. Akram sprang into consciousness with some unplayable balls and three wickets in the 1992 World Cup final. It was after that, until 2003, that he chased and courted greatness. I feel this is the right time for Bumrah to chase greatness over the next decade, particularly if he can single-handedly win India this World Cup.”
