Hardik Pandya, Nataša Stanković, Natasa Stankovic, DY Patil T20 Cup, Century

Finally, the fans got the luxury of watching Hardik Pandya in full flow. The flamboyant batsman announced himself with a stunning century – to prove his mettle with the bat. Following a century in the DY Patil T20 Cup, his fiancee Nataša Stanković showered words of praise for his big-hitting exploits.

Pandya was at his belligerent best as he slammed a whirlwind century off just 37 balls in the 16th DY Patil T20 Cup at the Reliance Corporate Park on Tuesday.

Eyeing a comeback in the Indian squad after recovering from his lower back injury, Hardik has sent a strong message to the selectors ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, starting March 12.

Over the years this T20 tournament has been utilised by several Indian players, including international and domestic, as preparation for the IPL.

This time the tournament has offered an added incentive for the trio of Hardik along with his India teammates Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, to prove their match fitness to the national selectors

Well, the selectors will soon pick the ODI squad for the three-match home series against South Africa, to be played between March 12 and 18.

Nataša Stanković is in awe of Hardik Pandya who slammed 37-ball hundred:

Meanwhile, Natasa, who got engaged with Hardik Pandya on the New Year’s day, shared his picture from the match on Instagram, with text written on it: “37-ball hundred for Hardik ‘Kung Fu’ Pandya. The deadly hitter is back at work.”

The Indian cricket team has been missing Pandya for long and now it seems that the Indian all-rounder is set to regroup with the contingent soon.

After recovering from a severe back injury, Pandya has been playing for Reliance 1 in the DY Patil T20 Cup and so far he has remarkable on his return.

The Indian all-rounder scored a century in just 37 balls. Most probably, this knock would pave way for him to make a comeback in the team.

Shikhar Dhawan

After Hardik Pandya, Shikhar Dhawan sported a Team India while featuring in the DY Patil T20 Cup for Reliance 1 against DY Patil ‘A’ on Wednesday. It looks like the Indian cricketers featuring in the tournament are taking this for granted after no action was taken against Hardik Pandya.

Pandya, however, later covered his Team India helmet with a sellotape.

Rules for wearing helmet in domestic tournaments

The national cricket board, had in 2014, asked match referees to ensure none of the Indian cricketers sport the BCCI logo while featuring in a domestic match as it will be considered a violation of the association’s code.

In fact, the clothing regulations clearly say that you have to tape the BCCI logo if you plan to use the same helmet in domestic matches as the one you wear while playing for India.

“The rule has been there from the start of the season but has only been implemented in all earnestness during the recently-concluded Deodhar Trophy final between West Zone and East Zone,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI in 2014.

Hardik Pandya, who returned to cricketing action after undergoing surgery, impressed with his performance but sparked a fresh new controversy by sporting a Team India helmet. Pandya, who scored 38 runs and picked up three wickets for Reliance 1, has still not been penalised or warned by the national cricket board due to his action.

India women team’s hopes of getting some much-needed match practise before the upcoming ICC Women’s World T20 has ended as their scheduled bilateral T20I series against West Indies has been called off.

The board of the two countries were yet to formally announce the schedule of the proposed three-match series. However, Cricbuzz has reported that some financial constraints compelled West Indies to call off the series. The talk of the series had started in July this year. BCCI had put forward a proposal according to which India were set to travel to the Caribbeans early for the series. The series was set to be played in the last week of October just before the ICC Women’s World T20.

But with the series not being a part of the ICC Women’s Championship structure, where West Indies are due to host India in the 2017-20 cycle, neither of the boards had formally made an announcement.

Now the players from both the sides will train in Antigua before the upcoming tournament.

“CWI & BCCI were hoping to schedule three International T20s in St. Kitts ahead of the Women’s World T20, as part of our respective preparation plans. As the series was not part of any bilateral future tours programme, CWI has been discussing the financials with the BCCI and unfortunately the matches will now not be taking place,” CWI told Cricbuzz. “Both teams will instead be training in Antigua before the ICC preparation period begins.”

The series-cancellation will be a big blow for India. The Women in Blue have failed to make it past the group stages in each of the last three editions of the competition. A series just before the ICC Women’s World T20 would have given the players some more time to get accustomed to conditions and do well in the main event.

Among the current players, only four – Harmanpreet Kaur, Mithali Raj, Veda Krishnamurthy and Ekta Bisht – have played in the Caribbeans before. That series, however, had also taken place way back in 2012.

India will now be looking to get the practise during the two warm-up games before the tournament. India will take on West Indies and England in the warm-up ties.

Prior to that, they will have a 10-day conditioning camp in Mumbai, before leaving for the Caribbean on October 27.

India will kickstart their campaign against New Zealand on November 9.

Shreyas Iyer and Shane Watson

Former IPL winner with Rajasthan and Chennai, Shane Watson heaped a lot of praise on Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer for leading his side very well.

The Shreyas Iyer-led KKR team, after finishing the league stages on top of the points table, became the first team in IPL 2024 to qualify for the finals. It will be Kolkata's first appearance at an IPL final since the 2021 season where the Chennai Super Kings had defeated them to bag their 4th IPL title.

With their qualification confirmed for the final, Shreyas Iyer and co. will be waiting to see who joins them in the final on May 26th. The finale, which is set to take place at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai, is the venue where KKR won their first-ever Premier League trophy. The M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru is the other venue where Kolkata won their 2nd and last IPL title.

What did Shane Watson say about Shreyas Iyer?

While speaking to Jio Cinema last night, Shane Watson had high praise for the innings that Shreyas Iyer played last night. Following a positive start given by Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, and the KKR stitched a 97-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. In fact, it was Shreyas who scored the winning runs of the match with a powerful six off Travis Head in the 14th over.

On that note, Shane Watson claimed that it was not just about his performance in Qualifier 1 but Shreyas Iyer batted nicely throughout IPL 2024. Watto admitted that the KKR captain chose a very good time to score his 58 runs which took him 24 balls to score with a strike rate of 241.67.

Shreyas' 5 fours and 4 sixes prompted Watson to claim that the former is hitting incredibly well. "Yeah, he played a crucial innings as well. He's batted nicely through this IPL. But to be able to put on a dominant display like he did 58 is a very impressive time as well. To be able to really know that you're hitting the ball incredibly well," Watson said via Jio Cinema.

Watson admits Shreyas Iyer is a great leader

Shane Watson went on to further add that Shreyas Iyer - the leader has also done a great job other than just batting well throughout the edition. As a leader, Watson feels that Iyer has had a lot of success as the players in the team have been successful in their ventures, which is a clear sign that Shreyas has done really as the leader of the pact.

Back in 2020, Iyer became the first captain of the Delhi Capitals franchise to help the team reach the finals. However, the Mumbai Indians had defeated DC to win their 5th IPL title. But this year, Shreyas has a golden opportunity to claim the silverware for the first time.

"But him as a leader, he's had a lot of success, which means that he's getting the best of the people around him. It's not just him doing his thing and he's performing well. The team around him, the players around him are doing very well, which is a which is a a telltale sign that you as a leader are doing a very good job," Shane Watson concluded.

Varun Aaron

Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron issued a warning to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) despite qualifying for the final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Varun Aaron stated that the Kolkata Knight Riders wouldn't prefer the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the summit clash.

The Shreyas Iyer-led team defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in the Qualifier 1 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, May 21. The Knight Riders chased down the 160-run target with 38 balls to spare. Following the victory, the KKR team advanced to the final match.

On Paper KKR Will Be Favourite - Varun Aaron

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Varun Aaron acknowledged that the Kolkata Knight Riders might be considered favorites to secure the title. However, Aaron stated that the Knight Riders believe Royal Challengers Bengaluru might secure the trophy if they reach the final of the ongoing season.

“On paper, definitely they (KKR) will be favourite. But of course, the result is decided on the day. It doesn't matter if your team is the best or the worst. I don't think KKR would want RCB, because they have the momentum. If RCB reach the final, they will have the belief that the trophy is theirs; nobody can stop them,” Aaron told ESPNCricinfo.

The Royal Challengers have made a spectacular comeback in the second half of the IPL 2024. The Faf du Plessis-led team secured a berth in the playoffs despite winning only one of their first eight matches. The RCB team secured six consecutive victories to earn a place in the 'Eliminator' match.

The Royal Challengers secured their place by defeating the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their last match. RCB will face the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, May 22. Faf du Plessis' team aims to extend their winning streak with momentum in their favor.

The Sanju Samson-led team experienced a contrasting season compared to the Bengaluru-based team. While RR won eight out of their first nine matches, their performance drastically declined in the latter half of the season. The Jaipur-based team hasn't secured a single victory this entire month in May.

They are Still Important Matches Left - Varun Aaron

Varun Aaron emphasized that the pressure of the final is distinct. The 34-year-old suggested that the Kolkata Knight Riders wouldn't prefer Royal Challengers Bengaluru to qualify for the final, highlighting RCB's strong belief in winning the IPL.

“There are still important matches left. The pressure of the final is entirely different. KKR wouldn't want RCB to qualify for the final, because they are coming with the belief that they want to win the IPL,” Aaron further said.

RCB's batting lineup has been notably impressive during their remarkable comeback. Virat Kohli has scored 708 runs in 14 matches at an impressive strike rate of 155.60. Other batters, such as Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, and Dinesh Karthik, have also delivered strong performances in recent matches.

KKR snubbed as Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist reveal their favorites to win IPL 2024

Former players Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist have revealed their picks for the favorites to win the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The 17th edition of the competition is in its final stretch and will conclude this week with the final on Sunday (May 26).

Kolkata Knight Riders have already booked their place in the final after thrashing Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the first qualifier on Tuesday (May 21). After bowling out the Hyderabad-based outfit for 159, KKR chased down the total in less than 14 overs by losing just two wickets.

The second finalist will be decided by the second qualifier. It will be played between SRH and the winner of the Eliminator between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. While the winner of the Eliminator will play against SRH for a place in the final, the loser will be knocked out.

Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist reveal their picks:

Ahead of the Eliminator, Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist have backed RCB to go all the way this season. Both the former cricketers were asked to reveal their picks on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast. In reply, they picked the Bengaluru-based outfit.

Michael Vaughan began by recalling the tweet he had posted in March after RCB suffered a 7-wicket loss against KKR at home. In his tweet, the former England skipper had taken a dig at RCB's bowling attack, saying that it would be impossible for RCB to win the competition with their bowling lineup.

Impossible for @RCBTweets to win the IPL with this bowling attack .. #OnOn #IPL2024live

— Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) March 29, 2024

"I may have put out there on social media that there's no way in a million years that the RCB side can win this event with this bowling attack," said Michael Vaughan.

"I am slightly worried. I think they won one in eight at the start. It was all over the place. They found Virat at the top. He's played great. He very rarely has a bad night out with the bat. So he'll be consistent at the top. Patidar has been a revelation, just going out swinging, played great.

"Not a bad replacement for Will Jacks, Glenn Maxwell. He did well in the last game. Yash Dayal, left-armer. He seems to be swinging around,"
he added before picking RCB as his choice to win IPL 2024.

Adam Gilchrist also snubbed the other three teams including the in-form KKR as he said: "The RCB juggernaut is an unstoppable force at the moment. "

The latest episode 📺 previewing the IPL finals 🇮🇳 is out now and the guys predict the winner of tonight’s big game 🏏 between Rajasthan and RCB!

— Club Prairie Fire (@clubprairiefire) May 22, 2024

RCB had started their campaign in a disastrous fashion. They were languishing at the bottom of the points table after managing to win just 1 of their opening 8 games. However, they won their next 6 games in a dominating fashion to storm into the playoffs.

Cameron Green

Australia and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Cameron Green has opened up about his selection for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, as well as his poor start to the IPL 2024 and the pressure of being one of the costliest players in the tournament.

Green also revealed how the Australia National Cricket Team handles the pressure of expectations, especially in ICC events and big matches, as they are ready for the hunt at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and Caribbean. The Aussie star said that he really feels proud to get a place in Australia's T20 World Cup squad.

Cameron Green reveals how Australia handle the pressure of expectations

The RCB star, reflecting on how the Australians manage the weight of expectations, said that the players always have high confidence thanks to their past successes. He stressed that Australia’s history of triumphs, including the T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup, allows them to approach big tournaments and matches with less pressure.

Unlike some teams, such as South Africa, which faces repeated disappointment in the ICC tournaments, Australia's great track record eases the burden of expectations. Green said that this enables the Australian cricket team to play their natural game with a sense of aggression, and it works for them.

Cameron Green was quoted as saying by Times of India: “We've always had a lot of confidence because we've had a lot of success previously. That allows us to go into the tournament with less pressure because most of the team members have won a T20 World Cup already and the ODI World Cup as well.

"I think that's always in the back of our mind and it has helped. We don't have that extra pressure like maybe a South African team might have because they keep falling short every World Cup. We play our natural game and probably play with a bit more aggression than other countries do.”

Cameron Greens opens up about his IPL 2024 campaign and RCB's incredible turnaround

Meanwhile, Green had a poor start to his IPL 2024 campaign, as he could manage only 55 runs and two wickets in his five outings for the RCB, raising questions about his price tag of INR 17.5 crore.

Notably, he was traded by the RCB to the Mumbai Indians (MI) last year. However, Green managed to turn things around in the second half of the ongoing IPL 2024, as he now has nine wickets and 228 runs to his name in 12 games so far.

Furthermore, Green reflected on his eventful IPL 2024 season with the RCB, as he described his journey as quite a roller-coaster. The Australian all-rounder admitted that he felt like RCB’s campaign was over at the halfway point, but they managed an incredible comeback in the IPL 2024.

The Australian all-rounder credited the strong off-field camaraderie and close-knit relationships among the players for the RCB’s remarkable turnaround in the IPL 2024, saying it has been helping the team to maintain team unity and spirit, especially during the tough and crunch moments.

Green also denied feeling any pressure from his high price tag in the IPL 2024. He mentioned that the RCB coaching staff is just awesome, and they have been supportive and haven't added unnecessary pressure on him. Green stressed that the pressure actually boosted his confidence, and his focus remains on playing his best cricket and contributing positively to the team.

Hasan Ali

Pakistan's right-arm pacer Hasan Ali has been withdrawn from the National team's squad for the T20I series in England by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Hasan Ali was selected for Pakistan's European tour which first saw them play a 3-match T20I series in Ireland which they won by a margin of 2-1. Now the Men in Green will take on Jos Buttler's England for a 4-match series in the shortest format and it will be their last stop to prepare for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan will be aiming to take one step forward in trying and winning the T20 World Cup this year after their failed attempts across the last two editions. The Men in Green were semi-finalists in the 2021 edition as they lost to eventual winners Australia and in the 2022 edition, Babar Azam's side remained on the losing side against the same England team they will be facing later today.

Why has Hasan Ali been withdrawn?

Hasan Ali has been released by the Pakistan Cricket Board due to the bowler having a contract with the Warwickshire team in the current English county season. The right-arm seamer will be fulfilling his commitments in the county cricket circuit and his participation at the T20 World Cup 2024 also seems dicey now.

The fast bowler was selected in the squad as a cover bowler for the injury-prone pacer Haris Rauf who will have a crucial role to play at the World Cup. Hasan Ali had also traveled with the Pakistani team for their series in Ireland wherein he only played the last T20I in Dublin where Pakistan had won by 6 wickets to clinch the series.

But in that match, Hasan Ali's bowling was highly questionable as he conceded 42 runs at an economy rate of nearly 15 from 3 overs. He wasn't also able to scalp a single wicket in that game.

"Fast bowler Hasan Ali has been released from the T20I squad. The team management has decided to let Hasan Ali continue his commitments in county cricket. Initially, Hasan was selected as an injury cover for Haris Rauf," PCB.

Before featuring in Pakistan's tour of Ireland, Hasan Ali had last played for Pakistan in the 3-match Test series in Australia back in December-January. In that Test series, too, he had a disappointing performance, picking up only 2 wickets from the 2 Tests he played in Melbourne and Syndey.

With his exclusion confirmed, Hasan Ali is now looking unlikely to appear at the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. Hasan was a part of the team that had travelled to UAE for the 2021 T20 World Cup edition but he didn't play a single match at the 2022 edition.

Pakistan's schedule for the T20 World Cup 2024
