Ramiz Raja

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja feels that the possibility of seeing India and Pakistan face off in a bilateral series is quite unlikely, but a tri-nation series involving the two countries is not out of the question.

The previous time the two arch-rivals met in a bilateral series was when Pakistan toured India back in 2012-13 for a 3-match ODI series. Following that series, they have met each other only in ICC events around the world.

There is talk going around town that suggests that both boards might be looking to revive the relations between the two sides, but the political and diplomatic tensions are far too tough to deal with. Speaking about the issue in a media interaction, Ramiz said:

Bilateral series between Pakistan and India seems unlikely at this moment, but we can hope to see both teams in action in a tri-nation series perhaps.

“I have good working relation and communication with Sourav Ganguly” – Ramiz Raja

Ramiz Raja further mentioned that his professional relationship with BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly, is quite friendly, and the two former cricketers can work out the differences and see where the path leads them to.

I have good working relations with Sourav Ganguly, and we have good communication; discussing cricket on a global stage and it can be improved. When two former cricketers are managing things, then they focus on cricketing matters, and it becomes an easier thing from an administrative standpoint,” Ramiz mentioned.

In their most recent encounter in the T20 World Cup, Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets in a lop-sided encounter in Dubai.

Ramiz Raja

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has confirmed that Pakistan will be playing in the tri-nation series set to be hosted by New Zealand ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.

The series will be excellent preparation for the conditions they will encounter in Australia, as per Ramiz. Pakistan reached the semifinal of the T20 World Cup in 2021 before losing to eventual champions, Australia.

After receiving confirmation dates from the touring England side that is due here in Pakistan on September 15, we have confirmed our participation in the tri-nation series to be hosted by Cricket New Zealand. I wanted my team to play a few internationals more or less amid Australian environments, ahead of the World Cup.”

Now the team will be having a good opportunity to test their combination and leading players’ form during the tri-nation series in New Zealand,” Ramiz said in an exclusive online interview.

“The pitches we are playing are not good” – Ramiz Raja

Ramiz also revealed he was disappointed with the pitches prepared in the 3-match Test series against Australia at home, which ended in a 1-0 win for the visitors.

These slow tracks are not serving our cricket in real terms. Since our forte is fast bowling, we have to look for those options where we can play to our strengths and also feel at ease while playing abroad.”

My intentions are to see Pakistan cricket at the top. The pitches we are playing are not good. It is impossible to carry drop-in pitches from Australia. We are however in the process of importing soil and specialist curators,” he added.

He also mentioned that he doesn’t try to intrude in the team selection and gives the power to the skipper, Babar Azam.

Since we have achieved excellent results. I am not in favour of any changes in selection. Babar Azam is the more powerful captain and is a very important part of the selection,” he also added.

Virat Kohli with RCB

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have canceled their practice session at the Gujarat college ground in Ahmedabad ahead of their Eliminator clash against Rajasthan.

The Gujarat college ground was made available due to the Narendra Modi stadium hosting the 1st Qualifier match between KKR and SRH. While RCB decided against practicing at the venue due to security concerns, the Rajasthan Royals went ahead with their only net session before tonight's high-voltage clash.

There was no press conference on the eve of the Eliminator match, which is quite uncanny to happen. And the main reason behind RCB canceling their preparatory session was due to the security concern of their star batter Virat Kohli.

More to follow.. .

Virat Kohli and Ricky Ponting

Australia’s three-time World Cup winner and legendary batter, Ricky Ponting, backed in-form Virat Kohli to yet again steal the limelight with his magical batting for India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Kohli is currently in red-hot form with the bat for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the ongoing IPL 2024. The dashing right-hander has already amassed 700+ runs as an opener and played a huge role in taking the RCB to the IPL 2024 Playoffs from the brink of elimination.

The former India and RCB skipper is currently the leading run scorer in the ongoing IPL 2024, and he would love to continue his awesome form in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which would be perhaps his last chance to win the most coveted title in the format. This mega event will kick off on June 1 in the USA and Caribbean.

Virat Kohli has a great record in T20 World Cup

India’s batting superstar has a great record in the T20 World Cups, as he is the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 1141 runs in five editions. He was the highest run-getter in the 2014 T20 World Cup with 319 runs in six matches—the highest by any batter in a single edition of the men’s ICC event.

Meanwhile, the former Australia captain backed Kohli's selection in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, where the Men in Blue will kick off their campaign against Ireland on June 5 in New York. Ponting highlighted that Kohli is often subjected to unnecessary scrutiny and doubts about his capabilities in the T20 format, and he stressed that he would always be his first pick for Team India.

The Aussie legend emphasized Kohli's ability to play a crucial role at the top of the batting order for the Indian cricket team at the global event. He mentioned that Indian stars like Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma can maintain high strike rates, which will enable Kohli to effectively anchor the innings for India at the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Ricky Ponting backs Virat Kohli to deliver in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024

He said that Kohli adds value and versatility to India's T20 setup. The Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach also insisted that there is no other player like Kohli who can play like him, saying he has that clash and experience that nobody can replace him.

Ricky Ponting was quoted as saying by ICC Review: “It's funny with Virat. I think people in India just always try to find a reason not to pick him or a reason why he's maybe not as good as some of these other guys in the T20 game. He (Kohli) is the first pick for me for India.

He can play his role at the top. And if you've got the right guys around him scoring (like) Suryakumar (Yadav)...Rohit Sharma's going to have a high strike rate. These other guys can go in there and play their way.”

Ponting added, “I remember having this chat and some other chats I did for the ICC about there's some talk about Virat not being in their team only last year, but what happened when the big games come around, he was one of the guys who got the job done. So, class and experience like that, you can't replace.”

Sam Curran

England and Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Sam Curran shared his thoughts on the Impact Player rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL), shedding light on its effects on the game's dynamics and strategies.

He called the Impact Player rule ‘quite confusing’. The BCCI introduced the impact player rule in the IPL last season. It allows teams to substitute a player who has already batted or bowled with another player from the chosen five players at the toss.

With this tactical innovation, BCCI aims to provide teams with strategic options to improve their performance in different situations, but this rule has not impressed many players. After Ricky Ponting, Rohit Sharma, and many other players, Curran has also expressed his reservations over the IPL’s impact player rule.

Impact Player rule has increased the scoring in IPL: Sam Curran

However, the England all-rounder acknowledged that the fans may enjoy the more attacking batting at the top of the order and lots of sixes in the IPL, but it also brings complexities and challenges for both the teams and players.

He highlighted the rule's influence on batting strategies, as it allows the players to take more risks early in the innings as the team can bring a batter as a substitute if their attacking plan fails. Moreover, Curran also noted that this rule enables teams to bolster their bowling attacks while defending the total by bringing in a bowler in place of a batter.

However, the PBKS all-rounder noted that the Impact Player rule complicated the team composition and tactical planning, shifting the focus from eleven players to a broader consideration of squad depth and match situations. He has indirectly called for the removal of the rule.

While recognizing the exciting evolution of batting and high scoring in the IPL due to the Impact Player rule, Curran joined the ongoing debate regarding maintaining a balance between bat and ball, as he feels both batting and bowling must be equally valued in the game of cricket.

Sam Curran feels the Impact Player rule makes things confusing

Sam Curran was quoted as saying by Sportstar: “I guess the fans and people watching at home would love to just keep seeing lots of sixes, but I think the Impact Player rule has made a huge difference. With the bat, it allows players to go fractionally more attacking at the top of the order because they know if it doesn’t go to plan, you are most likely to just bring in that extra batter at No. 7 or 8. In a way, it has probably helped the scores and how the players are playing, but vice versa, if you bat well, it allows an extra bowler to be in when you are defending.

"So, there are pros and cons for each team. I think it does make it quite confusing, as it shifts the focus from 11 players and requires more tactical analysis. The rule has been here for a couple of seasons. Who knows what they will do with it? But it certainly has increased the scoring. The way batsmen are developing has been fantastic to watch, but the challenge of keeping it fair between the bat and the ball will always be a debate.”

Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar lauded Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for their remarkable comeback after a disastrous start in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Sunil Gavaskar said that Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli played crucial roles in RCB's comeback in the ongoing T20 tournament.

The Royal Challengers made a stunning comeback to secure a playoff spot in the IPL 2024. The Faf du Plessis-led team lost seven of their first eight games of the season. The Bengaluru team beat defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their final league match to finish fourth in the standings.

The Faf du Plessis-led team defeated the Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs at their home ground. This marks RCB's fourth playoff qualification in the last five seasons since 2020. They will face the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the "Eliminator" at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, May 22.

Nothing Short Of Phenomenal - Sunil Gavaskar

Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar described RCB's comeback as "nothing short of phenomenal." The former Indian captain stated that Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli have played extraordinary cricket, which inspired the rest of the team.

"What RCB has done is nothing short of phenomenal. Firstly, to believe that they can bounce back. That requires something special. You have to say that their leading players Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, their senior players, they are the guys who are most encouraging the other players. Other team members can quickly get into a situation like , 'Oh we have lost everything'. Both of them have played extraordinary cricket," said Gavaskar.

Virat Kohli is the 'Orange Cap' holder in the ongoing tournament, having scored 708 runs in 14 innings at an impressive average of 64.36 and a strike rate of 155.60. Kohli has smashed five half-centuries and one century. Faf du Plessis has scored 421 runs at an average of 30.07 and a strike rate of 163.81.

RCB Will Walk All Over RR - Sunil Gavaskar

The Rajasthan Royals appeared to be heading towards finishing top in the points table. However, the Sanju Samson-led team endured four consecutive losses and a washout in their final league stage match. The Royals finished in third place in the standings, behind the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Sunil Gavaskar predicted a one-sided match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator. The former Indian captain stated that RCB will secure victory unless RR does something special in the match.

"Rajasthan they have lost four-five matches. They have not played their last game as well. They have been out of practice. Unless they do something special that KKR did today, despite not playing for 11 days, it could well turn out be another one-sided game tomorrow. My fear is it will be another one sided game tomorrow, where the RCB will walk all over RR. I will be surprised if that does not happen," Gavaskar added.

With Jos Buttler's absence, the Rajasthan Royals rely on players like Yashasvi Jaiswal (348 runs), skipper Samson (504), and Riyan Parag (531) to revive their form. The winner of the IPL 2024 Eliminator will take on SRH in Qualifier 2 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, May 24.

Aakash Chopra and Virat Kohli

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra stated that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) would beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Eliminator match. Aakash Chopra highlighted that the momentum and hunger make the Royal Challengers Bengaluru a formidable team.

The Rajasthan Royals will face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, May 22. It's a must-win encounter for both teams in the ongoing season. The winner of the 'Eliminator' match will face the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Chennai on May 24.

The Faf du Plessis-led team won six consecutive matches to secure a berth in the playoffs. The Sanju Samson-led team lost four of their five matches in the league stage. The last match of the Royals against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru Have The Momentum - Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra stated that only a poor performance could prevent RCB from progressing to Qualifier 2. The former Indian opener acknowledged the possibility of a bad day but stated that they have been in consistent form.

"The scales, without doubt, are tilted towards Bengaluru. They have the momentum. The only thing that can go against them is that they have won six consecutive games. A bad day can come anytime but they are a team on the rise with a lot of hunger. So I am going with RCB," Chopra said.

This Team's Graph Is Going Upwards - Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator stated that Virat Kohli's stellar performances have been exemplary and crucial for RCB's resurgence. Aakash Chopra highlighted the Bengaluru team's upward trajectory after the disastrous start.

"This team's graph is going upwards. So which are the big, big pieces that have worked well? Virat Kohli's passion, aggression and consistency. He has been absolutely stellar. He is unstoppable. He has decided that he has to do and show something different this season. Virat Kohli consistently doing well is absolutely mandatory in their turnaround," Chopra added.

Virat Kohli is the leading run-getter in the ongoing tournament. The right-handed batter has amassed 708 runs in 14 matches at an impressive average of 64.36 and a strike rate of 155.60. He smashed a century in RCB's last match against the Royals but failed to secure victory in Jaipur on April 6.

The 46-year-old commentator highlighted Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar's form as significant positives for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Chopra said that Du Plessis has provided good opening partnerships, while Patidar has been performing consistently well after a slow start.

"Faf du Plessis - this team also started coming back based on his performances because the opening partnerships started becoming good. Rajat Patidar's sudden reclamation of form because he started the IPL from where he left the Test series. There was even a question about whether he should be played or dropped but he has consistently played well now," Chopra further added.
