A huge statement has come from the side of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is related to the political interference in Indian cricket.

This statement has also come in light of BCCI's reported denial to send the Indian team to Pakistan for next year's ICC Champions Trophy. The last edition took place back in 2017 with the 2025 hosts defeating Virat Kohli's team in the final. If the Champions trophy takes place in Pakistan, then the Men in Green will enter the competition as reigning champions.

What triggered the PCB official to call out India's politicians?

A couple of weeks ago, Indian captain Rohit Sharma had said that the Indian team would like to play against Pakistan in a bilateral series. The last time they played a non-ICC or ACC event was back in 2013 when the Pakistanis had come on tour of India for a 3-match ODI and a 2-match T20I series respectively.

While the T20 series had remained a draw, the Pakistanis had won the ODI series by a margin of 2-1. That particular series was the last time we witnessed an Indo-Pak bilateral series. Since then, they have been clashing against each other only during ICC events like the Champions Trophy, 50-Over World Cup, T20 World Cup, and during Asia Cup tournaments.

On Rohit Sharma's comments, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi had given the green light to have a bilateral series in the future but he had a condition. Naqvi stated that he would allow the Pakistani team to play a bilateral series only if India came to their country for the Champions Trophy in February 2025.

Weeks after that statement from Mohsin Naqvi, a PCB source have bashed the Indian political scene for interfering in cricketing matters. The source also stated that while Indian players are willing to play against Pakistan, it's the political leadership that puts constraints.

"PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said it already that Pakistan is open to play a bilateral series with India at a neutral venue only if India agrees to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year,” the PCB source told IANS.

"There is a clear and glaring contrast between the statement of Rohit Sharma and a corresponding BCCI source-based story. It clearly shows that if its about cricket, the players are willing and have no problem in playing each other at home grounds. But its the political leadership of India that always creates nuisance and blocks the way every time," a source said via IANS.

India to face Pakistan on June 9

Meanwhile, the latest chapter in India and Pakistan's rivalry is set to be added on June 9th in the iconic city of New York when they clash at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Out of the 7 matches that both of them have played against each other in T20 World Cups, India have claimed victories in 5 matches with Pakistan only winning 1. The match has also remained tied only once.

The highest score in the fixture has been 160 whereas the lowest has been on 118.

Sanju Samson has impressed one and all with his performance as a batsman as well as captain in the ongoing IPL 2024. He has led Rajasthan Royals from the very front this season. Recent reports stated that Sanju Samson might miss out as the selectors were keen on picking a wicketkeeper who could bat lower down the order. However, the selectors have picked Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant as the two wicketkeepers in the team. While Pant will be playing his third T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson is gearing up for his maiden appearance in the T20 World Cup.

Fans on Twitter weren't happy after all-rounder Hardik Pandya was appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament is all set to place in the Caribbean and the United States of America from the 1st to the 30th of June.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (30th April) named the strong 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The squad saw some bold calls being taken as Rinku Singh and KL Rahul were dropped and Yuzvendra Chahal was picked in the team.

One of the things that caught the attention of many was that Hardik Pandya was given the role of vice-captain for the T20 World Cup 2024. The all-rounder has been going through a torrid run of form in the ongoing IPL and has failed to deliver goods as a leader of the Mumbai Indians.

There were reports that Hardik Pandya might be sacked as the vice-captain of the team and they might give a nod ahead to Rishabh Pant for the role. However, this wasn't the case as the all-rounder has been trusted with the role, which he held in the ICC World Cup 2023.

The T20 World Cup 2024 will also mark the return of Hardik Pandya to the Indian team after a long injury. He got injured during the World Cup and since then missed action for the team. However, ahead of that, he captained the team in T20Is in the absence of Rohit Sharma.

Former Australia captain and commentator Michael Clarke has delivered a scathing statement, as his honest assessment of the Mumbai Indians' (MI) miserable performance in the ongoing IPL 2024 made headlines. Clarke said that the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp is divided into different groups, due to which they are not performing as a team this season.

The former Australian batter further went on to claim that there may be underlying issues within the MI camp that are currently hidden from the world. Clarke also said that there are very slim chances for MI to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs.

Notably, MI made a significant change by appointing Hardik Pandya as their new captain ahead of this season, replacing the five-time IPL-winning skipper Rohit Sharma. This decision didn’t go down well with the fans, which is evident with them booing Pandya during MI’s matches this season.

The disconnect between the team and its supporters, along with the transitional phase, has clearly affected MI’s performance in the ongoing IPL 2024, where they are currently sitting in the ninth position in the standings, having suffered defeats in six out of nine games.

Michael Clarke said on Star Sports Cricket Live: “Yeah, I don’t know (Whether they will make it to the playoffs). I think its wishful thinking for Mumbai this entire IPL. I think there’s a lot more going on than what we are seeing on the outside and you can’t have that many good players and perform this inconsistently. So, I think there are different groups inside that changing room and something is not working, they are not gelling together, they are not playing as a team.”

"Individual brilliance can get MI over the line"

The former Australian skipper admitted that MI have big players like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, and their individual brilliance can help the team win a few matches, but they need to perform collectively at their best to win big tournaments like the IPL.

Clarke signed off by saying, “Individual brilliance can get them over the line, if Rohit Sharma comes in and gets another hundred or Hardik does something with the bat or Bumrah bowls like a genius again, you never know. I think to win big tournaments you need to be a team and not just have individual performances and unfortunately, they haven’t played well as a team so I hope they turn it around, but I can’t see them winning this game.”

The much-awaited 15-member India squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was announced on Tuesday (April 30). As expected, Rohit Sharma will be leading the team in the marquee event while allrounder Hardik Pandya will be his deputy.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been selected as Rohit's opening partner while Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav will be taking care of the number three and four positions respectively. Shivam Dube will be another middle-order option. For the wicketkeeper's position, the selectors have picked Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson while ignoring the likes of KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Jitesh Sharma.

Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja have been picked as the all-rounders and will be the other spin options along with frontline spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. The pace department comprises only three frontline pacers - Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh. Pandya and Dube will be the other seam-bowling options.

Rinku Singh misses out:

The selectors have raised a number of eyebrows by not including Rinku Singh in the India squad for the T20 World Cup. The left-handed batsman was looking set to make the cut for the mega event after impressing in last year's IPL as well as an international cricketer.

However, the Ajit Agarkar-led panel has decided against including him in the squad. Rinku Singh, Shubman Gill, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan have been named in the reserves. Rinku had impressed one and all with his finishing skills in the IPL last year.

Playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, he scored 474 runs in 16 games with the help of four half-centuries. He scored his runs at an average of almost 60 and a strike rate of 150. The impressive display in the IPL earned him his maiden India call-up and he hit the ground running in international cricket as well.

In 15 T20Is so far, he has scored 356 runs at a staggering average of 89 and a strike-rate of over 176. The impressive displays, however, were not enough for Rinku Singh to make the cut for the T20 World Cup this time.
