Pakistan legend Javed Miandad's old comments about the Indian team's visit to the country have re-surfaced on social media ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

The 50-over showpiece event, which is played only by the high-ranked teams, will take place in Pakistan next year. The ICC Champions Trophy was last held in 2017 in England with India and Pakistan featuring in the final. It was Virat Kohli's maiden ICC tournament as the captain of team India and it eventually ended in favor of the Men in Green.

In the finale, which took place at the Kia Oval, India were asked to chase down a mammoth total of 339 runs. Pakistan was able to reach the total, thanks to Fakhar Zaman's 114 off 106, Azhar Ali's 50 off 71, Babar Azam's 46 off 52 and Mohammad Hafeez's 57 off 37. In response, the Indians could not even score 200 runs as they were folded for just 158 and lost by a heavy margin of 180 runs.

Since that final on June 18, the ICC Champions Trophy has not returned for another edition. It was just a few years ago that the ICC put the ODI competition in the pipeline and awarded the hosting rights to the reigning champions. However, there are concerns about whether the Indian team will be allowed to go to the country, which is infamously known for Terrorism and constant security threats.

The PCB along with the ICC, might have to adopt a Hybrid model to facilitate India's matches outside of Pakistan just like it was adopted in Asia Cup 2023. The Men in Blue played all of their Group as well as knockout matches, including the finale, in Sri Lankan soil and the same thing could be on the cards for the Champions Trophy as well.

What did Javed Miandad say about team India visiting Pakistan?

A couple of years ago, Javed Miandad appeared in a podcast of a famous Pakistani YouTuber, who asked the former if India should visit Pakistan or not. In his response, the former opening batsman gave his approval about the Indians coming to the land of Purity.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra stated that Gautam Gambhir will face challenges if he becomes the head coach of the men's cricket team. Aakash Chopra noted that many key players, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, are nearing the end of their careers, particularly in T20 cricket.

The Indian cricket team is currently playing in the T20 World Cup 2024 under Rohit Sharma as skipper and Rahul Dravid as head coach. The Men in Blue advanced to the Super 8 stages of the ICC tournament. Rahul Dravid's tenure as head coach will end after the ongoing World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will appoint the next head coach in the coming days. Gautam Gambhir is the frontrunner to replace Dravid as head coach. However, WV Raman is also in contention, and his presentation was very impressive and detailed during the interview on Tuesday.

"Gautam Gambhir has given the interview. It's been said that it was a virtual interview as opposed to WV Raman, who gave a fantastic presentation. I have just read that. Gautam Gambhir is the frontrunner in this race. It's been said everywhere and we have also understood that," Chopra said.

"I am saying it will be an interesting tenure because you will have to manage the transition here, and that is never an easy thing. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, maybe Ravindra Jadeja, especially their roles in T20s, there are plenty of people who are on the wrong side of 30, 35 to 37, including Ravichandran Ashwin," Chopra added.

The future of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja in T20Is is uncertain after the current T20 World Cup. According to a PTI report, Rohit and Virat are expected to prioritize ODIs and red-ball cricket, especially with nine WTC Test matches scheduled between September 2024 and January 2025.

Very Important Road Map Will Have To Be Prepared - Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator stated that Gautam Gambhir will need to develop a comprehensive plan for India to succeed in several upcoming global events. Chopra noted that Gambhir's tenure would include the 2027 World Cup, the 2027 World Test Championship, and the 2026 T20 World Cup.

"In the next three to four years, when the 2027 World Cup comes, you have to prepare your team for that. There will also be a WTC in 2027 and a T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in 2026. So a very important roadmap will have to be prepared," Chopra further stated.

The former Indian cricketer emphasized that Gautam Gambhir will need to effectively communicate with both retained and released players. Chopra mentioned that managing transitions is challenging and crucial, as it involves maintaining performance levels and clearly explaining decisions to the players involved.

Well, the most likely scenario for Kuldeep's inclusion in the playing XI would be leaving out a fast bowler, either Arshdeep Singh or Mohammed Siraj.

With the calm breeze blowing across the Kensington Oval, which could offer plenty to the spinners after the pacers swing the ball in the powerplay, it makes a strong case for Kuldeep to replace Siraj in the playing XI for the India vs Afghanistan game.

Sources reveal Kensington Oval will offer turn

An insider who has a fair knowledge of the Kensington Oval conditions told TOI: “Ideally, India should go in with three pacers and three spinners, but it's to be seen whether they are ready to take the gamble.”

On the other hand, a former international player who was present at the Kensington Oval told PTI: “The pitch should turn in the middle as well; it may not be as much as it is doing in the nets, but it will definitely turn. The spinners have proved quite useful throughout the Caribbean thus far. I don't think India will make any changes; they would not want to compromise on their batting.”

Current India head coach Rahul Dravid is reportedly in touch with several IPL outfits to be their Team Director after the expiry of his contract with the BCCI.

Rahul Dravid is all set to step down as the Indian National team's head coach after a tenure of 2 and a half years. The former batsman and captain will leave the dressing room as soon as the Men in Blue's ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign comes to an end. Dravid had the chance of extending his stay and re-apply for the job but he decided against it.

Rahul Dravid's journey in ICC events as India's head coach

Since taking over the head coaching role in November 2021, Rahul Dravid made waves with the senior Men's team. He helped in forming a solid core unit of the team which challenged the big teams around the world. The Indian team became a major force in ICC events, reaching at least the semis of every tournament since Dravid's appointment.

However, despite Rahul Dravid's best efforts, the Indian team's dream to win a major ICC title since 2013 remained a dream. It began with the T20 World Cup 2022 where they lost to England in the semis. That was followed by consecutive losses to Australia, first in the World Test Championship final and then in the 50-over Cricket World Cup final on home soil.

The ongoing T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies is Rahul Dravid's last dance and last chance to win a competition as the Indian head coach. He will be stepping down at the end of this month and he will be succeeded by former teammate Gautam Gambhir.

Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman were interviewed by CAC

The 2011 World Cup winner, who mentored KKR to win their 3rd IPL title last month, has already been interviewed for the role. Reports have claimed that Gautam Gambhir, yesterday had a Zoom call with Cricket Advisory Committee's officials - Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape, and Sulakshana Naik.

Other than Gautam Gambhir, the CAC also interviewed former Senior Women's team head coach Wookeri (WV) Raman. Gambhir's interview lasted for about 45 minutes wherein he reportedly discussed having different teams across all three formats. Raman spoke with the Advisory Committee for about 30 minutes.

The CAC will now directly report to the BCCI and recommend either Gambhir or Raman for one of the most exclusive sporting jobs around the world.

Rahul Dravid to make IPL return

According to reports In the Times of India, the first contacts have been made by a few Indian Premier League teams to hire Rahul Dravid as the Team Director. Dravid has previously served as Rajasthan Royals' mentor and Delhi Capitals' head coach. With him leaving the National team's head coaching role, a return to the richest T20 league of the world is in the cards.

It is unknown as of now as to which teams have contacted Rahul Dravid but whichever team has done, they will bring him in before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
