India has produced some quality cricketing talent over the past few years. It is well known that the country has immense cricketing potential but choosing and backing the right talent has a big role to play in this process.

The IPL plays a huge role in the talent search but not every successful IPL player goes on to achieve the same success at the international level. Among so many names, the selectors have a tough job of selecting a handful of players for the national team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and Sarfaraz Khan, all of these youngsters have made solid entries into the international arena and have shown their potential. In the upcoming years, these players are expected to win a no. of games for India.

Wasim Jaffer credits the scouting team for selecting Dhruv Jurel

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has credited the selectors and the scouting team for the selection of Dhruv Jurel in the Indian team. During a podcast on the TRS clips YouTube channel, Jaffer admitted that he was initially surprised with Jurel's selection as he was nowhere near the picture.

"I was surprised because he suddenly came into the scene. He was nowhere in the picture. Credit should be given to those who scouted him. To bring him suddenly into the Test team because he wasn't in the reckoning. Either it was Rishabh Pant, KS Bharat, or KL Rahul. They brought him out of nowhere and realized that it can work well," Jaffer said.

The former India batter also lauded Dhruv Jurel for his batting and wicketkeeping in the Test series against India.

"Jurel should be patted on the back too for the way he responded, scoring 90 against England. Then in the IPL too. He has the skills. It's not just him. Many more have it. It's just about getting a chance," Jaffer added.

Dhruv Jurel was exceptional in his maiden international series which was played against England. He scored a crucial 46 in his debut Test at Rajkot. He didn't stop there and went on to score magnificent 90 and 39* in the next Test at Ranchi.

Jurel's second innings score of 39 came when India was in a spot of bother at 120-5, chasing a target of 192 in the fourth innings of the Test match. He was adjudged Player of the Match for his performance. The 23-year-old scored 190 runs in four innings at an average of 63.33 as India won the series 4-1.

Despite Virat Kohli being absent throughout the series, India's youngsters showed their strength by guiding the team to a memorable series win. Jurel's IPL teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as the highest run-scorer of the series with 712 runs in five Tests at an average of 89. Jaiswal was adjudged Player of the Series for his brilliant performance with the bat.

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta has selected the XI for the Rohit Sharma-led team in their upcoming match against Afghanistan at the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Deep Dasgupta omitted all-rounder Axar Patel and pacer Mohammed Siraj from his playing XI for India's next match.

The Rohit Sharma-led team began their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a victory against Ireland in New York. The Men in Blue went on to beat Pakistan and the United States of America (USA) in their next two matches. India's final group-stage match against Canada was washed out in Florida due to a wet outfield.

The Men in Blue advanced to the playoffs from Group A alongside the United States of America. The Indian team is placed in Group 1 along with Afghanistan, Australia, and Bangladesh in the Super 8 stages. India will play three matches in the Super 8s, and two teams from Group 1 will advance to the semifinals.

Speaking on Star Sports, Deep Dasgupta said that Virat Kohli should bat at No. 3, given his ability to anchor the innings while others contribute around him on difficult pitches. He acknowledged that India might opt for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to open, but he prefers Yashasvi Jaiswal to open the innings.

"I would ideally go with Virat at three. Because I think Virat at three on tricky pitches can handle and guide that innings while the others play around him. So for me, even though Team India might not go with the playing XI that I'm talking about, they might still go with Virat and Rohit to open, but ideally, I would go with Rohit Yashasvi," Deep Dasgupta said.

Skipper Rohit Sharma scored a half-century against Ireland but has struggled in the next two matches during the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rohit's opening partner, Virat Kohli, has only managed five runs in three matches. Young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was not included in all three matches during the group stage.

Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj Dropped From Playing XI

Deep Dasgupta picked Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant as middle-order batters in the lineup. Rishabh was promoted to No. 3 and has scored 96 runs in three matches at an average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 124.67. Suryakumar Yadav scored a half-century against the USA after failing in the first two games.

The cricketer-turned-commentator named Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube as pace-bowling all-rounders in the playing XI. Dasgupta excluded Axar Patel from the lineup for the upcoming match. He retained Ravindra Jadeja in the lineup despite failing to make an impact with both bat and ball in the World Cup.

Dasgupta excluded Mohammed Siraj from the team and included two injured pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. A left-arm wrist spinner is included in the lineup despite not playing in the group-stage matches. The match will be played at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on June 20.

According to Pakistani media, Kirsten, in a direct conversation with the Pakistan team in the dressing room following their exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, expressed concerns about the team's fitness levels, saying their fitness level was below par and not meeting his expectations.

In a critical assessment, Kirsten also pointed out a significant gap in skill levels compared to international standards. The head coach said that Pakistani players have no clarity regarding shot selection during matches, despite having a lot of experience at the highest level.

He also claimed the Pakistan team had ‘no unity’ since he joined the team, and the situation in the dressing room was the worst he has ever seen in his coaching career. Bhogle also highlighted how the former Indian head coach worked amazingly with Team India and won the 2011 World Cup with them despite having some strong and impeccable characters in the team like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni.

The commentator said that such incidents expose the insecurity within the Pakistan team, but he hopes that they will do well to seek the benefits of Kirsten’s knowledge. However, Bhogle has indirectly warned the South African legend of the true colors of the Pakistani players.

Former India All-rounder Irfan Pathan has pointed out the challenges that the Indian team will face in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s.

Rohit Sharma's Men in Blue will be locking horns against Group B winners Australia and Group C and D runners-up Afghanistan and Bangladesh. They will be attempting to enter their 2nd consecutive World T20 semi-final, having lost the 2022 one against England during the edition which took place at the Land Down Under.

The Indian team will also be attempting to reach their first T20 WC final since the 2014 edition when they had become runners-up to the Sri Lanka team. Since then, India have appeared in two out of the three semi-finals and it will be interesting to see if they can pass the semis and reach the finale.

Rohit Sharma has a very good chance of becoming the first captain since MS Dhoni to win a major ICC silverware. He could have achieved that feat last year itself had the Aussies not denied them in the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup final. But with a new year, there's a new hope that Rohit can at last quench the thirst of a million Indian fans.

Ahead of India's Super 8 matches, inaugural T20 WC winner Irfan Pathan has come up with a few suggestions.

Irfan Pathan's gameplan against Afghanistan

Irfan Pathan asked the Indian team to come up with a solid batting plan against the potent bowling attack of Afghanistan. Pathan feels that Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya will have to play a crucial role with the bat. He stressed Surya specifically because he has the talent to play well against spinners.

Pathan also hoped for Virat Kohli to score runs but he feels that the batting stalwart will find his way to get runs under his belt.

"Having a good plan against the Afghanistani bowling line-up is very important for the Indian team. At the same time, I feel Suryakumar Yadav will have a crucial role to play because they have a lot of good spinners and Surya has a range of shots against slow bowlers."

"Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja should be able to bat well, too, and I hope that happens. Virat Kohli should also be able to score and he is the type of player who'll find a way out." - Pathan told Star Sports.

As for Bangladesh, Irfan Pathan claimed that Shakib Al Hasan specifically could be a threat and so would be the underrated pace attack.

Aggressive batting against Australia

Last but not least, India's biggest threat is Australia. Irfan Pathan feels that the Aussies might have an added advantage because they played all their Group matches in the West Indies while India played in the USA. To see them off, Pathan feels that the batters will have to bat aggressively as in the bowling department, the Jasprit Bumrah-led department can come on top of them.

The former Pakistan captain was not impressed with the idea, as he slammed the critics by saying who will replace Babar if the star batter gets removed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the selection committee. He said that there is not a player of Babar’s caliber in the whole country.

Actually, Pakistani journalist Saj Sadiq shared a post on X celebrating the 15th anniversary of Pakistan’s thrilling win over South Africa in the 2009 T20 World Cup semifinals. Pakistan had defeated South Africa by 7 runs to make it to the finals of the T20 World Cup 2009, thanks to an outstanding all-round performance from Afridi at Nottingham.

The legendary all-rounder had scored 52 runs off 34 balls and then dismissed dangerous Herschelle Gibbs and AB de Villiers to help Pakistan beat the Proteas side by 7 runs on June 18, 2019. Then, the Men in Green crushed Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the final to lift their only T20 World Cup in London.

Reacting to the Pakistani journalist’s post, Afridi revealed that the Pakistan team was unhappy and disjointed, but it was the magic of Younis Khan’s captaincy that brought everyone together, and they created history by winning the 2009 T20 World Cup in England.

Haris Rauf has now come up with an official statement regarding his fight with a Pakistan fan in the USA. The troubles for the Pakistan cricket team do not seem to end. The team faced an early elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024 after finishing third in Group A behind India and USA.

The Men in Green lost its opening match to the USA in a shocking manner. The game went into the Super Over but Pakistan couldn't hold its nerves to hand USA a memorable win. In the next match, Pakistan lost another close game to arch-rivals India by 6 runs.

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has shown his frustration on social media and urged the people to show respect towards his parents and family. In his tweet, Rauf admitted that he is open to receiving all kinds of criticism on social media but will not tolerate anything against his family.

"I decided not to bring this on social media, but now that the video is out, I feel it is necessary to address the situation. As public figures, we are open to receiving all kinds of feedback from the public. They are entitled support or criticize us. Nevertheless, when it comes to my parent and my family, I will not hesitate to respond accordingly. Haris Rauf had a good tournament with the ball as he picked up 7 wickets in four matches at an average of 14.42 and an economy rate of 6.73. In the important game against arch-rivals India, Rauf picked up 3-21 in three overs and helped Pakistan restrict India to 119.

Rauf is an important part of Pakistan's fast bowling line-up along with Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir, and Naseem Shah. His high pace close to 150 kmph makes him a unique prospect for his side. The 30-year-old has picked up 102 wickets in 72 T20Is so far at an average of 20.94.

But Pakistan's batting faltered as they scored only 113-7 in 20 overs, thus falling short by 6 runs. Pakistan's bowlers had a good time in the tournament but their batters failed to live up to the expectations. Although Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, two of Pakistan's best batters scored runs, they had strike rates of 101.66 and 90.90 respectively.

Former England captains and well-known broadcasters Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton have unveiled their Team of the Tournament after the conclusion of the group stages of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies.

As the actions shift to the Caribbean Islands, England legends have announced their Team of the Tournament so far based on the player’s performances in the first round of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

However, Hussain and Atherton have picked the team together at Sky Sports. Well, it was so surprising and obvious that they both didn’t pick the all-time leading runscorer of the T20 World Cup and Indian batting superstar, Virat Kohli, in their Team of the Tournament at the moment.

Unfortunately, Kohli failed to perform as an opener, scoring only five runs in his three outings and failing to make it to Hussain and Atherton’s Team of the Tournament. Jasprit Bumrah is the only player from India to cut their Team of the Tournament of the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage.

Surprisingly, Hussain and Atherton didn’t name a single England player in their team, saying they have not played enough good cricket to impress them. They have named two Australians and two West Indians in their team.

Hussain and Atherton’s Team of the Tournament comprises Scotland batter Brandon McMullen, USA all-rounder Aaron Jones, Australia’s opener Travis Head, Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, and South Africa’s big hitter David Miller.

In their bowling attack, the former England captains picked West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph, left-arm spinner Akeal Hossain, Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah in their Team of the Tournament so far.

They also discussed Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rahman, but they needed two left-arm bowlers, and that’s why they went with Alzarri Joseph, who has been instrumental in the West Indies’ unbeaten campaign in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 so far.

"Jasprit Bumrah must be there"

Hussain and Atherton also joked that if they do not pick Bumrah, they will have to face backlash on social media before praising the Indian pacers’ economical bowling for Team India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Bumrah has so far managed only five wickets in three games.

Michael Atherton was quoted as saying by Sky Sports Podcast: “We came up with Gurbaz at the top of the order for Afghanistan. He's had a good time, along with Travis Head. McMullen has had a good time with Scotland at 3. Aaron Jones, who you've seen play for the USA, who played a part in those early wins against Canada and Pakistan. Marcus Stoinis has had a good tournament in the middle order, along with David Miller. You mentioned South Africa's top order is not firing, but Miller in the lower order dragged them out of a hole.”

Nasser Hussain said: “We had Bumrah. He had to be in.”
