Joy Bhattacharjya and Rohit Sharma

Former KKR team director Joy Bhattacharjya made a massive claim ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. He believes that appointing Rohit Sharma as the captain of the team may hamper the side as the senior batter is not the ideal choice.

Rohit Sharma will be captaining the Indian team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played in June later this year. After the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, there was no clarity related to the place of the opener in the team. He wasn't part of the team for almost a year.

In his absence, youngsters got the opportunity and there were many speculations that he won't be playing in the T20 World Cup 2024. However, Rohit Sharma made a return to the team earlier this year in the series against Afghanistan and made an immediate statement, slamming a century in the third game.

After that, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Rohit Sharma will be captaining the team in the tournament. The batter since then has looked in ominous touch and is scoring runs in the IPL 2024. The opening batter has slammed over 300 runs in the tournament and is amongst the leading run-getters.

Joy Bhattacharjya, however, isn't happy with Rohit Sharma leading the team in the T20 World Cup 2024. He believes that having the Mumbai Indians batter in the team means one of the in-form batters in Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill will have to bat down the order. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he explained:

"The decision to appoint Rohit Sharma as India’s captain for the T20 World Cup may have hampered the team. At this point, Sharma is not the ideal choice to lead the team in the T20I format I have the utmost respect for Rohit Sharma and I think he is an amazing cricketer.

"However, he is currently out of batting form. Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill are in better form right now and are strong contenders for the opening positions. However, since Sharma is the captain, he will open, meaning one of those in-form players will have to bat lower down the order."

I would choose Jasprit Bumrah over Rohit Sharma as captain - Joy Bhattacharjya

Joy Bhattacharjya further made a bold claim, saying that he would prefer Jasprit Bumrah as captain of the Indian team over Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup 2024. He believes that the senior opener wants to end his career on high by winning the title. He added:

"I would choose Jasprit Bumrah over Rohit Sharma as captain because Bumrah’s skill as a bowler makes him a vital member of the team. Rohit has achieved everything in cricket, but there’s one thing he needs to do; win a World Cup. He won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and wants to end his career on a high note, we call it book-ending. That’s a great thought."

With the deadline to announce the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 is 1st May, it is expected that the Indian team for the tournament is likely to be announced in the coming week.

Aiden Markram, Glenn Phillips

Former IPL-winning head coach with Sunrisers Hyderabad Tom Moody has ruled out the possibility of dropping Aiden Markram from their playing XI.

Tom Moody along with former RCB pacer Varun Aaron were discussing about match number 41 between SRH and RCB last night at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium. The duo had appeared in ESPNcricinfo's Timeout show and therein they dissected all the action that unfolded yesterday.

Varun Aaron says Aiden Markram could be dropped at the back end of the season

The host of the show asked if SRH could bring in Anmolpreet Singh into the playing XI at the expense of Aiden Markram, who is currently struggling to get runs.

In his response, Varun Aaron stated that he doesn't really think a scenario of that sort can happen because Hyderabad are on a roll at the moment. Since SRH have a positive momentum at the moment and the fact that they are serious play-offs and title contenders, Aiden Markram will not be dropped. And that not only Markram but none of the players in the team will get dropped.

Aaron also stated that Markram is the kind of a batter who can act like a glue to their firing top and middle order and thus his chances of getting dropped are less.

"Look the way SRH is going, I think they want to keep their winning combination intact and not move around too many pieces because they would want to continue this momentum into the playoffs considering they are going to be serious playoff contenders."

"So I don't see Glenn Phillips coming in at this stage or anybody else coming at this stage when they are on a hot streak like this. Yes they lost today but they will persist a little longer because he can be a glue to their completely firing top order," Varun Aaron said via ESPNcricinfo Timeout show.

Another panelist in the show then asked if Glenn Phillips could be given a chance in the coming matches just in case the SRH needs the Kiwi.

Varun Aaron then backtracked a little and claimed that Phillips might get a chance only if SRH qualify for the playoffs early and give him some game time at the back end. "I mean if they qualify early, maybe they can do that but they still haven't qualified so maybe," Aaron added.

Tom Moody says he doesn't buy this philosophy

The former SRH head coach claimed that he doesn't really buy into this philosophy of dropping a player to facilitate another one at this juncture of the competition. Tom Moody claimed that if SRH doesn't replace Aiden Markram with Glenn Phillips then there are chances of creating uncertainty between those two players and that might also disrupt the team balance.

"I don't buy into that philosophy. Because you give a player a couple of games because you might need him. Well, what happens to the player you're leaving out and then you've got to make that change again. So you're disrupting the whole playing balance and you're creating uncertainty around two players," Tom Moody concluded.

Nandre Burger and Virat Kohli

Rajasthan Royals' South African pacer Nandre Burger has cleared the rumor and has admitted that there was no sledging incident between him and Virat Kohli during India vs South Africa Test series.

Nandre Burger and Virat Kohli had got into some moments during team India's all-format tour of South Africa wherein the latter only played the 2-match Test series. The series was taking place just after the Indians had lost to the Australians in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad.

What had happened between Virat Kohli and Nandre Burger?

Most of the Indian team, except for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, visited South Africa a month prior before the start of the Test series for the white-ball leg. Nandre Burger was a part of the Proteas team that lost the ODI series and drew the T20I series 1-1. Then both the nations clash in the longest format of the game as part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

Rohit Sharma's men were extra determined to win the Test series because no other Indian team had been able to do so. With an aim to breach the final frontier in legendary South African opening batter Dean Elgar's final red-ball series, India lost the 1st Test by an innings and 32 runs.

With hopes of breaching the final frontier shattered, the Indians played the 2nd Test to win and go back home after equalizing the series. The 2nd Test took place in Cape Town and therein Virat Kohli and Nandre Burger shared some heated moments inside the 22-yards.

After getting rid of Rohit Sharma, Nandre Burger was hustling to get Virat Kohli out. In the follow-up to one of the deliveries, Burger threatened to hit the stumps when Kohli was standing firm in front. There was a good amount of stare-down between the two with the former India captain smiling it off.

At the end of that day, the moment went viral all over social media and became the best heated moment of the series. The 2nd Test match then eventually became the shortest Test match ever in terms of balls bowled with the match finishing by the 2nd session of day 2.

After bowling out the South Africans for 55 and 176 and scoring 153 themselves in their first innings, India claimed victory by chasing down the target of 79.

Burger says he would enjoy sledging Virat Kohli

While speaking to Proteas and RR teammate Donovan Ferreira, Nandre Burger was asked about the one batter he enjoys sledging with. To that, Burger said that he just enjoys the competitive side of cricket and that people thinking that he had a sledging episode with Virat Kohli is incorrect.

Burger revealed that there were only stare downs but if he was to take part in sledging with Virat Kohli, then he would enjoy it.

"I don't think there is any specific batter I enjoy sledging, I just think I enjoy the competitive side of it. But I think during the India series people thought myself and Virat had a little thing which we actually didn't, there was no sledging happening there, it was just stare downs but I think if I ever get into a little sledging match with him, it'd be quite fun and I think I'll enjoy it," Nandre Burger said via Rajasthan Royal X handle.

Krunal Pandya welcomes second child

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Krunal Pandya and his wife Pankhuri Sharma have welcomed their second child. The couple was blessed with the baby boy on Sunday (21st April) and they confirmed the development through a social media post on Friday (26th April).

Krunal Pandya and Pankhuri Sharma named the boy Vayu Pandya. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) cricketer took to his social media account and gave his fans the news about him and his wife getting blessed with a baby boy. He posted the picture on his Twitter with the caption: "Vayu Krunal Pandya, 21.04.24."

Here's the post:

Vayu Krunal Pandya
21.04.24 💙🪬 🌍 pic.twitter.com/TTLb0AjOVm

— Krunal Pandya (@krunalpandya24) April 26, 2024

Krunal Pandya is currently part of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The all-rounder has been one of the major reasons behind the team's success in the tournament as he has been magnificent with the ball as well as with the bat in the limited opportunities that he has had. Krunal Pandya is one of the most economical bowlers in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He has chipped in with the ball at crucial junctures for Lucknow Super Giants and has stopped the run-scoring for the opposition in the middle overs as well.

In the 8 matches so far in the IPL 2024, Krunal Pandya has picked 5 wickets in the tournament. The all-rounder has an economy of just around 7. His best came in the game against Gujarat Titans, where he returned with the figures of 3/11 and helped his team win the game against the Shubman Gill-led side.

Lucknow Super Giants overall are having a great time in the Indian Premier League. The KL Rahul-led side is looking for one of the favorites to win the tournament. They have delivered breathtaking performances in the league so far and are currently 4th on the points table.

Lucknow Super Giants have won 5 out of their 8 games and have 10 points to their name in the tournament. The KL Rahul-led side would be keen to deliver a similar kind of performance in the second half of the tournament and seal the playoffs spot for the third consecutive time in the IPL.

Sanjay Manjrekar picks Krunal Pandya in his team for the T20 World Cup 2024

Krunal Pandya's terrific outing with the bat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 made former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar pick him in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played in the United States of America and the Caribbean in June this year.

Krunal Pandya has been decent in the few games that he has played for India in the T20Is. The all-rounder has played 19 T20Is and has picked 15 wickets for the team. With the bat, he has mustered 124 runs at a strike rate of over 130.

Sanjay Manjrekar's squad: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Avesh Khan, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, Krunal Pandya

Yuvraj Singh and Dinesh Karthik

Former India batter and inaugural ICC T20 World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh feels Dinesh Karthik should not be a part of the Indian squad if he is not in the playing XI.

Yuvraj Singh recently sat for an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC) where he shed light on India's chances and squad for the T20 WC 2024. The former left-hand batter also spoke about that one player who will have the onus to score a lot of runs for India and also spoke in depth about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's future.

What did Yuvraj Singh say about Dinesh Karthik?

Yuvraj Singh was also asked about the wicket-keeper he would like to see in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. He was asked if Dinesh Karthik would be able to make the cut or not. At the moment, Karthik is on a red-hot form and calls are being made to include him in the T20 WC squad immediately.

These calls further increased after Dinesh Karthik smacked 83 off 34 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad recently at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium. However, his former India teammate Yuvraj Singh feels that including him in the 15-man squad won't make sense if he doesn't end up playing the matches.

Yuvraj Singh claimed that the Indian selection committee should rather include in-form keepers like Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. Yuvraj reasoned that during the last edition in 2022, Dinesh Karthik did not have many chances to play and that he would like to see him in the squad only if he is going to play for India.

"DK has been batting well, but the thing with DK is the last time (2022) they picked him and the T20 WC was on he didn’t get to play. If DK is not in your XI I don’t think there is any point in picking him. There is Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and both guys are in great form and obviously they are younger."

"I would like to see DK in the mix, but if he is not going to play then you would rather have someone who is younger and can make the difference," Yuvraj Singh told the ICC.

David Warner, Ishant Sharma and Sourav Ganguly

Delhi Capitals (DC) have faced a major blow ahead of their game against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Star batter David Warner and pacer Ishant Sharma have been ruled out of the fixture against the five-time champions in the tournament, as confirmed by Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly.

David Warner and Ishant Sharma have been struggling with their fitness in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Both players have missed quite a few games for the team and their absence has been quite evident with the team losing some crucial games in the tournament.

David Warner suffered a thumb injury against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and after that missed a few games for the team. He returned for the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) but missed the next game against Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The batter is yet to gain full fitness and will be not featuring against Mumbai Indians.

In the absence of David Warner, Delhi Capitals played Shai Hope in the last game. The move didn't work well as the West Indies batter bagged a low score. However, thanks to the heroics of skipper Rishabh Pant (88*) with the bat as team posted a big total and won the game.

On the other hand, Ishant Sharma has been facing issues with his back. The lanky pacer had a back spasm and missed the Delhi Capitals' last two games against SRH and GT. He too is yet to attain full fitness and hence will be missing the game against Mumbai Indians.

The absence of Ishant Sharma has seen Delhi Capitals testing quite a few players with the ball. In the last match, they provide an opportunity to Rasikh Salam. Although the pacer gave away few runs he picked up three wickets and helped his team win the game.

Delhi Capitals are currently placed 6th on the points table with 4 wins from 9 games. The Rishabh Pant-led side would want to win their last few games in the IPL 2024 and book a berth in the playoffs. With the absence of David Warner and Ishant Sharma, it'll be a tough challenge for the team.

Axar is certainty in the World Cup, Rishabh and Kuldeep should be there - Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly talked about the possibility of Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, and Kuldeep Yadav making it into the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024. He believes that the trio should board the plane for the USA and Caribbean as they will be crucial for the team. Speaking to reporters, he claimed:

"Axar is certainty in the World Cup. Rishabh and Kuldeep should be there. He can bat number 8 and smack the spinners in the middle overs at the bat. These Axar and Jadejas are talented."

The Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024 is set to be announced next week. It remains to be seen who will make it into the team. It won't be a surprise if Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, and Kuldeep Yadav are selected.

KKR vs PBKS Impact Players

In the match no. 42 of Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took on the Sam Curran-led Punjab Kings (PBKS). The match between the two teams is being held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday, April 26.

With the return of Gautam Gambhir to KKR as a mentor the performance of the team has got significantly better and they have looked like a force to reckon with in the ongoing edition of the league. KKR have looked equally dominant both with bat and ball and they have played an entertaining brand of cricket in IPL 2024.

In their previous match, Knight Riders won an absolute nail-biter by a margin of 1 run as they defeated the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Batting first they scored 222 for 6 with almost every batter making a significant contribution.

However, with the ball, KKR were underwhelming and their bowlers were taken to the cleaners by RCB batters, who made the full utilization of the conditions on the offer. The equation finally came down to 3 runs off 1 ball but RCB only managed to get one run and due to a last-ball run-out they were bundled for 221.

Just like KKR, Punjab Kings have also played an entertaining brand of cricket but they haven't been as successful and have mostly lost the thrilling encounters. Currently, they are in the 9th position on the points table with 2 wins in 8 games.

Punjab Kings lost their previous match against the Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur on April 21 as their batters failed to step up and they could just score 142 runs. Despite a small total on the board, the PBKS bowlers showed a good fight and took the game to the last over. However, GT managed to complete the run-chase with 3 wickets in hand.

IPL 2024: Revealed - Who are the impact players nominated by KKR and PBKS for match 42

Punjab Kings won the toss and chose to bowl first in the match. At the toss, Sam Curran revealed that they have brought in Jonny Bairstow for Liam Livingstone. Sam Curran stated:

"We will have a bowl. We had 4 games at home, unfortunately lost all four, guys are ready for the away games though. We know what we need to do from here, just go out and play. Liam Livingstone misses out, Jonny Bairstow is back."

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer revealed that they have also made one change to their playing XI by bringing in Dushmantha Chameera for Mitchell Starc. He elaborated:

"We've had different players stepping up at different times, that's the thing I'm pleased about this season. Starcy got a cut on his finger in the last game, Dushmantha Chameera replaces him. Need a great start and then convert it into a big score, hoping to continue the same form and momentum."
