Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill, on Wednesday (April 17), stressed on the importance of moving on after his team suffered a dismal defeat against Delhi Capitals in the 32nd game of the ongoing IPL 2024.

Asked to bat first, GT were bowled out for just 89 runs. They were bowled out for less than 100 runs in an innings for the first time in their IPL journey that began in 2022. GT kept losing wickets right from the word go and never really looked in contention to score big.

They lost the wickets of Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha, David Miller, and Sai Sudharsan inside the powerplay and just could not recover. Barring Rashid Khan (31), no other player could touch the 20-run mark while Sudharsan (12) and Rahul Tewatia (10) were the only batters who managed to reach double-digits.

In reply, DC chased down the total inside nine overs. The visitors did lose the wickets of both of their openers - Jake Fraser-McGurk and Prithvi - inside the third over but never really looked in trouble. They lost two more wickets before an unbeaten 25-run stand between Rishabh Pant and Sumit Kumar took them over the line.

Shubman Gill on the defeat:

Speaking at the end of the game, Shubman Gill began by saying that his team's batting performance was average before urging his teammates to move on.

He also decided against blaming the pitch and stated that poor shot selection was the reason behind the team's poor show. Shubman Gill also hoped that his team would bounce back and win most of the remaining league games.

"Our batting was very average, and it is important to move on and come back strong. The wicket was right, if you see some of the dismissals, it had nothing to do with the pitch. Poor shot selection I would say," said Shubman Gill.

"When the opposition are chasing 89, unless someone takes a double hat-trick, the opposition will always be in the game. This is just the halfway mark of the season for us, we have won 3 and hopefully, we win another 5-6 from the next 7 like in the last couple of years," he added.

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals, on Wednesday (April 17), thrashed Gujarat Titans by six wickets to register a much-needed win in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Everything went right for the Delhi-based outfit as they thoroughly outplayed Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Rishabh Pant's decision to bowl first was justified by his bowlers. Led by Mukesh Kumar's three-wicket haul, Delhi Capitals bowled out the hosts for a paltry total of 89 runs.

Ishant Sharma and Tristan Stubbs also picked up two wickets each. For Gujarat Titans, Rashid Khan (31), Sai Sudharsan (12), and Rahul Tewatia (10) were the only players to reach double-digit mark with the bat during the dismal show. Gujarat Titans were bowled out for less than 100 runs for the first time in the IPL.

In reply, Delhi Capitals chased down the total inside nine overs. While they lost four wickets, they never really looked in trouble during the chase. Rishabh Pant and Sumit Kumar shared an unbeaten 25-run stand to take their team home with more than 11 overs remaining.

Rishabh Pant was also adjudged the Player of the Match for his fine display behind the stumps as well as scoring an unbeaten 16. He took two catches and affected two stumpings. Speaking at the end of the game, Rishabh Pant sounded delighted over his team's performance.

"Lots of things to be pleased about. We talked about the champion thought process and our team showed today that we can play like that and really happy to see that," said Rishabh Pant.

Speaking on the team's bowling performance, he said: "Definitely one of the best, it's early on in the tournament, can't say much as we can improve individually."

Speaking further, Rishabh Pant also spoke on his comeback, saying: "The only thought process before coming on to the field was coming in a better way, that's what the only thought when I was going through my rehab.

He ended his post-match interview by talking about the team plan for the chase as well as expressing his admiration for Ahmedabad.

"The only conversation we had before the chase was - let's get it as early as possible, we lost a few run-rate points earlier and we covered it up. We just love being in Ahmedabad, we love the stadium, the vibe here and looking forward to play more matches here. We just want to enjoy our win at a time and move forward learning from it," said the wicketkeeper-batsman.

Amid the IPL 2024 thrill, talks about the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 are slowly growing among the cricket fraternity. Recently, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar reportedly met in Mumbai to discuss their 2024 T20 World Cup squad.

It is being said that they made it mandatory for Hardik Pandya to bowl regularly to his full quota in the ongoing IPL 2024 to prove his bowling fitness if he wants to be picked for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which will be co-hosted by the USA and the Caribbean from June 1, 2024.

Adam Gilchrist suggests a few surprising names to Rohit Sharma for the keeper's role at T20 World Cup 2024

On the podcast, legendary Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, in a very serious mood, called MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik very young talents, and they would be great choices for the wicketkeeper’s role for the Men in Blue at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Gilchrist’s remark left everyone in a split, as former England captain Michael Vaughan somehow controlled himself from laughing, while Rohit couldn’t himself but burst into laughter before lauding legendary Dhoni for his latest onslaught against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Adam Gilchrist said on the podcast: “Obviously, every game, every night, everyone's speculating on which Indian is going to get a boarding pass out to the Caribbean. The keeper-batsman role is, you know, to an extent up for grabs. Amazing amount of young keeper batsmen at your disposal to pick from.

And I reckon the two standouts, two really youngsters who are shining, who I reckon they're both going to have a big future when they grow up and get a bit older, a bit more mature. Dinesh Kartik and MSD, mate, they're I reckon they're going to be great players when they grow up. Yeah.”

To which the Indian skipper replied by saying that it would be tough to convince Dhoni to play in the T20 World Cup in 2024. He also recalled Dhoni's onslaught against Hardik Pandya during the MI vs CSK IPL 2024 clash, where the former skipper scored 20 runs off just 4 balls. He then teased Karthik, who recently played a stunning innings of 83 runs off 35 balls, by saying he would easily agree to travel to the USA and Caribbean with the team.

Rohit Sharma said on the podcast: “Yeah, I was quite impressed. Quite impressed, you know, especially with Dinesh, the way he batted a couple of nights back. And Dhoni as well. I mean, look, he came to play four balls, made a huge impact, got those 20-22 runs. And that was eventually the difference in the end.

And look, it will be hard to convince MSD for sure to come to the West Indies, I guess. He is sick and tired. He is coming to the US though to do something else. He is into golf now. So, he is coming to play golf, I guess. Yeah. And then, yeah, DK will be easy to convince, I guess.”

Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who is not captaining 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians for the first time since 2013, has made a huge revelation about team India's plans in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Rohit recently appeared in the famous Club Prairie Fire podcast with Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan among others and therein, he revealed that the reports about him and Virat Kohli opening in the T20 WC are nothing but fake.

Rohit Sharma was asked to shed light on that report claiming he could have a new opening partner, come the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

What did Rohit Sharma say about the rumors?

But in his own words, the Hitman stated that there is no truth in these suggestions and that unless India head coach Rahul Dravid or chief selector Ajit Agarkar make an announcement, every other report about the team has no heart and soul. The Men's selection committee is set to sit down on May 1st to decide the 15-man squad for the World Cup which will start from June 1 onwards.

And in the podcast, Rohit Sharma confirmed that he is yet to speak to either of Rahul Dravid and Ajit Agarkar as to who will open the innings with him and what will the top-order combination look like. At the moment, every India player is focussed on making the Indian Premier League 2024 season, a big one for them and their WC selection chances. In simple terms IPL 2024 is nothing more than a rehearsal for the mega event.

"We haven't met so far, we haven't decided who'll open at the World Cup (on him and Kohli opening). In today's age, until and unless you don't hear from me, Rahul bhai or Ajit bhai, everything else is fake". - Rohit Sharma said via Club Prairie Fire podcast.

Not just for the Indian players but also for the foreigners in the competition, IPL 2024 is crucial and it is an audition for every single player. With that being said, a players' performance can spark up plenty of rumors like Virat Kohli's performance from the opening slot is causing. Kohli is currently leading the Orange cap race with 361 runs from 7 matches at a 70+ target but his performances have not really helped the Royal Challengers Benglauru as they struggle at the bottom.

There are indications that the top 10 provisional list for the T20 World Cup has come out and therein, Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant are some confirmed names. But there is no clarity as to who will open with Rohit Sharma. There are also indications that only one of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be selected in the team and as for the middle-order, either of Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh will make the cut.

When will India begin their T20 World Cup campaign?

Half of the Indian team will be flying a week prior to the start of the T20 World Cup while the remaining squad will reach USA after the final on May 16, depending on the teams qualified. And the Men in Blue will begin their campaign on June 5 with a clash against Ireland, followed by the Indo-Pak match on June 9 in New York. Rohit Sharma's men will then face USA and Canada in their final group matches on 12th and 15th June respectively.

In a recent development, it has been confirmed that Mumbai Indians captain and all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be an automatic selection in the Indian team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

While Pandya is on course to be there in the team for the WC, there will be stiff competition between middle-order batters Rinku Singh and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shivam Dube.

The deadline for the 15-man squad announcement is the 1st of May and all the contenders will have to be at their best before the date arrives.

The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League is serving as a great preparatory tournament for not just the Indian players but also for the foreigners in the league.

This tournament is more than capable of helping a player prove themselves and go on to book their tickets for the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

The biggest question at the moment is what will India's middle-order look like and who will be the all-rounders, Hardik Pandya or Shivam Dube?

Latest reports from the PTI are claiming that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has already figured out the top 10 players from the 15-man squad for the World Cup.

Among them, while Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube are still on the waiting list, new MI captain Hardik Pandya is there along with skipper Rohit Sharma, top-order batter Virat Kohli as well as Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant. No other names have been disclosed yet but Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj may be also in the top 10 list.

Competition between Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh for the lower-middle order spot

The same report from the PTI has claimed that, while Hardik Pandya is not in danger of losing his spot, the Indian middle and lower-middle order will see a tussle between Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh.

Both of them have had a good tournament so far but in terms of the finisher's role, Rinku is likely to cut. The reason behind Dube's possible non-selection from the 15-man squad could be the fact that the CSK man hasn't bowled a single over in the tournament.

For the all-rounder's criteria, bowling is a must but Shivam Dube has yet to tick that particular box. Hardik Pandya, too, has not bowled much in this edition but due to his experience in ICC tournaments and seniority in the team, the Baroda all-rounder is most likely to make it.

But that one selection fight to watch out for will be between Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube. In terms of numbers with the bat, Rinku might have had a better season than Shivam last season as he had scored 474 runs while Dube had 418.

But this season, Dube has had the chance to bat more and so he has scored 242 runs already from 6 matches at a 160+ strike rate.

Rinku Singh on the other hand has not batted much this season and so in 6 matches, the UP batter has only 83 runs but that doesn't take away anything from his finishing skills. He is still the same man who smacked 5 sixes in a row last season to help his team win from an unthinkable situation.

And as the deadline comes closer, the anticipation is increasing but who will make the final cut? Time will tell.
