PAK vs NZ Match Preview: New Zealand Tour Of Pakistan 2022-23, 2nd Test

PAK vs NZ Match Preview 2nd Test. Pakistan takes on New Zealand in the second Test in Karachi starting on January 2. The first Test ended in a draw with both teams gaining four points each from the Test match. Both teams play a three-match ODI series after the end of the second Test. The matches will be on January 9, 11, and 13 all in Karachi.

The second Test is a must-win for both teams if they want to win the series. Pakistan are placed seventh on the points table while the Kiwis are placed eighth. Both teams have are almost out of the race for the WTC final.

Babar Azam will lead Pakistan. Tim Southee will lead the Kiwis. The last time Kiwis played a Test series in Pakistan was in 2002 and lost the series 1-0. This time around, they have a chance of beating the hosts.

After both teams piled up runs in the first Test, the pitch curator will be under pressure. He needs to prepare a pitch that is result oriented and brings the bowlers into the game early. Babar Azam and Kane Williamson top-scored for their respective teams in the first Test. The story might be similar in the second Test as well.

Pakistan have lost two back-to-back Test series at home. They lost -1 against Australia earlier this year in March-April. England then whitewashed them in a three-match Test series in December. The loss has put them almost out of the reckoning for making the finals. However, now against the Kiwis, they have a chance to start the new year on a winning note.

They fielded a pretty inexperienced bowling attack in the first Test. With Shaheen Shah Afridi not playing in the Test series, Hasan Ali needs to lead the bowling attack alongside Naseem Shah. They can also look to include Shahnawaz Dahani and all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz who will be effective with his leg spin apart from his bowling.

The Kiwis played proper Test cricket against the Men in Green. They were in the game for longer intervals but were happy with the win in the end. Skipper Tim Southee lauded his players for the way they played in the first Test. He also reflected back on the experienced players and explained the thought behind taking the draw in his post-match comments.

Heading into the second Test, they can stick to their XI. There is an option for them to bring in Glenn Phillips instead of Tom Blundell as the specialist keeper in the XI. He can provide the innings with some much-needed impetus in terms of scoring runs. The rest of the side looks fine given the experience in the side.

PAK vs NZ: Pakistan Playing 11 for New Zealand, 2nd Test. Pakistan takes on New Zealand in the second Test match in Karachi starting on January 2. The bowling attack looks weak in the absence of Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi. While Shaheen is nursing an injury, Rauf is not included in this Test series. The likes o Naseem Shah and Hasan Ali should come in as replacements for a couple of bowlers in the side. The side should also consider including Mohammad Nawaz considering his all-round potential.

Pakistan did not win a single Test match on home soil in 2022. They are eager to turn things around in 2022. In this article, we take a look at Pakistan’s probable playing XI for the second Test against the Kiwis.

After two back-to-back Test series defeats, the pressure is on Pakistan to not succumb to one more series defeat. This is something that they can use to their advantage. The Kiwis have more experience than the Pakistan side and that is something that might work in favor of the decider.

Kane Williamson

The likes of Kane Williamson, Tom Latham, and Devon Conway are in good form. Southee with his experience is a key figure in the XI as well. The side might look to make one or two changes to their playing XI. In this article, we take a look at New Zealand’s predicted playing XI for the second Test against Pakistan.

Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir, a Pakistan bowler, made an unexpected return to the National High-Performance Centre here on Friday, sparking talk about his probable return to the national team.

Amir’s visit to the facility was the first since he lost out with the leadership of the Pakistan Cricket Board under previous head Ehsan Mani.

He had also failed to get along with Ehsan’s replacement, Ramiz Raja, who was dismissed from office along with his Board of Governors last week for an interim Management Committee, led by Najam Sethi, to take over the board’s business in accordance with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s instructions.

Amir stated that he was allowed to practice at the NHPC after successfully obtaining permission from Sethi and that he hoped to return to international cricket.

The bowler, who was involved in a spot-fixing scandal during Pakistan’s tour of England in 2010, said he is now focused on preparing for the 2018 Bangladesh Premier League.

Mohammad Amir was banned for five years after the spot-fixing scandal:

Amir was given a five-year ban after the spot-fixing scandal, but in 2016 he was allowed to rejoin the team for another tour of England. He also contributed significantly to Pakistan’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy the following year.

But once Mani took over as PCB chairman in 2018, the left-arm lost favor because the board was adamant about not letting corrupt players play for Pakistan.

Amir also declared his retirement from Test cricket at the time, which decreased his chances of being selected for Pakistan.

India National Cricket Team

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reviewed the team’s 2022 performance on Sunday with the participation of captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and top selector Chetan Sharma. Conversations on the direction of Indian cricket apparently happened at the meeting, which also included BCCI Chairman Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah, and NCA Director VVS Laxman.

Following the meeting, the BCCI made a number of announcements, including changes to the selection process and workload management concerns. The “Yo-Yo” Test returned to the Indian squad, and “DEXA” was also made public as one of the selection criterion.

Both are “implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players,” according to a statement from the BCCI.

DEXA Explained

Bone density is measured using an imaging technique called DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry). This test is used to assess bone density and can reveal whether a fracture in the bone is occurring.

There are two sorts of beams produced by the scan: high energy and low energy. The bone density is determined by counting the number of X-rays that are released after each beam passes through the bone.

In the meantime, Yo-Yo Tests were discontinued by the BCCI earlier because to increased player weariness while competing inside the Covid-19 bio-bubble. The test returns in the Indian squad since there are no more bio-bubbles in place.

NCA Will Work In Tandem With The IPL Franchisee To Monitor The Targeted Indian Players: BCCI

The BCCI also disclosed that the board will evaluate the workloads of “selected players” in collaboration with the Indian Premier League teams.

The decision was made with the October–November 2023 ODI World Cup in mind, which would be organized by India.

“Keeping in mind the Men’s FTP and preparations for ICC CWC 2023, the NCA will work in tandem with the IPL Franchisee to monitor the targeted Indian players participating in the IPL 2023,” the BCCI statement read.

A new rule was also mandated by BCCI for rising players. “The emerging players will have to play a substantial domestic season to be eligible for selection to the national team,” read a pointer from the BCCI statement briefing the review meeting.

Ramiz Raja

The 60-year-old Ramiz Raja has launched a scathing attack on the new regime of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) since being sacked as the PCB chairman. Now, he has questioned the position of the newly-appointed chairman Najam Sethi on the relationship with India.

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah, last year, said that the Asia Cup 2023 will not be held in Pakistan and will be shifted to a neutral venue because India can’t travel to the country. Then PCB chairman Ramiz Raja slammed Shah for his remark and threatened to pull out of the Asia Cup if it gets shifted out of Pakistan, and the World Cup, which will be held in India.

Meanwhile, the newly-appointed chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Najam Sethi, said that his administration will “go by the advice of the government”, which is the same stand as India.

However, Ramiz questioned Sethi’s leadership and said that the new cricket management committee shouldn’t bow to India’s instructions because of the power they hold in world cricket.

“What is leadership? When Asian Cricket Council has asked Pakistan to host a tournament and then India say they won’t travel to Pakistan and shift the tournament to a neutral venue, what should be the response?” asked Raja on Pakistan’s Dunya News.

“Kya hum sab servant rahenge India k, kyunki woh ek world power hain apne hisab se. Kya hum har cheez unki mante jayenge?” (Are we servant of India just because they are a world power in cricket? Should we listen to everything they say?)

“We will think, will we get isolated, we’ll ask permission from the government then talks will move further. These are not signs of good leadership.

“The Pakistan cricket team is enjoying a great run, you have a good fan following, you have superstars, so please give your team and fans the respect they deserve.

“There should be a decision on the matter, as the tournament was given to Pakistan, so how can it be shifted to a neutral venue without consulting us or with the ACC members,” Raja concluded.

The National Coach Will Be A Foreigner – Najam Sethi

Najam Sethi

Najam Sethi (PC-Twitter)

Sethi, meanwhile, has confirmed that the new head coach of the Pakistan National Cricket Team will be a foreigner. He added that they have had talks with former Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur, who did a good job when he was in the power.

“The national coach will be a foreigner,” Sethi said.

“Mickey is presently contracted with Derbyshire and I have spoken to him. The situation will become clear in the next 8-10 days and we have sought his advice on the new coaching setup for the team.

“When he (Arthur) was with the team, he did a lot of good work and he was responsible for pushing Babar Azam forward. He also maintained a lot of discipline and fitness in the team. I believe he will be good for the team again if he is available.”

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja spoke about the controversial resignations of Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis from the coaching staff. Misbah and Waqar were sacked just days before the T20 World Cup in 2021 in the UAE and were replaced by Saqlain Mushtaq (head coach) and Abdul Razzaq (bowling coach).

Following the 3-0 Test series defeat against England at home, Ramiz Raja was removed as the chairman of the board and Najam Sethi was appointed as interim board chief. Sethi started making significant changes to the national cricket team. Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has been named the interim chief selector, along with former players Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum.

They Received Their Full Payments For Two Years – Ramiz Raja

When asked about Misbah and Younis’ departures, Raja told Samaa TV that changes were needed at the time and that it was his “right” to take the decision.

“They received their full payments for two years. They were given full respect. As a chairman, it was my right to dismiss them. Even now, they are talking about removing Saqlain Mushtaq and replacing him with Mickey Arthur. I made contracts in such a way that I didn’t want the board to be left with a coaching setup for three years,” Ramiz said.

We Brought New Management, It Wasn’t Easy For Me – Ramiz Raja

The former PCB chairman said it was a hard decision to communicate with Waqar Younis, who had shared a dressing room with Raja during his playing days. He said he realized that changes were needed when he was doing commentary.

“We had yearly contracts. They (Misbah and Waqar) would’ve left in January/February anyway. We brought a new management. It wasn’t easy for me. I’ve played with Waqar, I talked to him in detail.”

“The CEO talked to Misbah. It obviously didn’t look good that the change took place with a week or 10 days before the T20 World Cup. But I had an idea that we could only go to a certain extent with them. When I used to do commentary, I realised that a change was necessary.”

Rishabh Pant, the star batter for Team India, was heading to his birthplace of Roorkee in Uttarakhand when he was involved in a terrible vehicle accident. When Pant’s car hit a wall and took fire, he shattered the glass to escape before receiving aid from a bus driver and conductor from Haryana Roadways, who had already arrived at the scene of the accident.

Multiple head, back, and limb wounds are being cared for by Pant at a private hospital in Dehradun. Following the revelation of his mishap, the cricket community has sent its best wishes for Pant’s quick recovery.

Kapil Dev, a great cricketer and former skipper of India, expressed grief after the event and expressed gratitude to god for keeping Pant safe.

“This is a learning. When I was still an up-and-coming cricketer, I faced a motorcycle accident. From that day onwards, my brother didn’t even let me touch the motorbike. I’m just thankful to god that Rishabh Pant is safe,” Kapil Dev told ABP News.

The former India captain said that players must look for themselves and that Pant could simply employ a driver rather than operate the vehicle himself. Pant had been operating the vehicle by himself, according to a statement from the SP SK Singh of Haridwar (Rural); on Sunday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami disclosed Pant had been “trying to avoid a pothole or anything black” before the incident.

“Yes, you have a good-looking car with great speeds but you have to be careful. You can easily afford a driver, you don’t have to drive it alone. I understand that one has hobbies or even passion for such things, it’s natural to have it at his age, but you also have responsibilities. Only you can take care of yourself. You have to decide things for yourself,” Kapil Dev said.

Marco Jansen

The 22-year-old South Africa National Cricket Team fast-bowling all-rounder Marco Jansen, while reflecting on his first year in international cricket, said that he “couldn’t have asked for a better start”.

Marco Jansen, who is a left-arm pacer and a right-handed batter, made his international debut for South Africa in the Test match against India in Centurion in December 2021. So far, he has bagged 41 wickets and scored 266 runs, including one half-century, in 9 Tests. He has also represented the Proteas in three ODIs and one T20I. The fast-bowling all-rounder has been nominated as one of the ICC’s emerging players for 2022.

Speaking ahead of the third and final Test of the series against Australia, Marco Jansen talked about his first year as an international cricketer.

“It didn’t start great, my first over in Test cricket went for 14 [12],” he said ahead of the Sydney Test against Australia on January 4, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“I haven’t really thought about it yet or reflected but it’s gone way better than expected. Couldn’t have asked for a better start, I guess.”

For me, I always try and see moments and if I see a moment I go even harder in that moment – Marco Jansen

In the first Test against Australia, Jansen bowled in one innings and had figures of 3/32 and in the second Test, he had the figures of 1/89 in the only innings South Africa bowled. Notably, his figures in the second Test match did not reflect how well he bowled, especially a spell to star batter Steve Smith on Day 2.

Meanwhile, Marco Jansen revealed that the premier pacer Kagiso Rabada told him that Smith was struggling against him and only after that he realised that the Australian batter was finding it tricky to play his deliveries.

“Think KG came to me and said, ‘listen, Marco, keep going because he’s not looking comfortable’. Think that was after my third over bowling to him,” Jansen said.

“I didn’t even recognise that he was, not struggling, but finding it a bit challenging and only after that I could see that I should shy away, keep going, keep going, hitting the hard length.

“For me, I always try and see moments and if I see a moment I go even harder in that moment. Whether that’s with the ball, in the field or with the bat. So after KG came to me, that’s when I realised that I can’t just bowl a floater here, I have to keep on him because we might take a wicket.”

Australia thrashed South Africa in the Brisbane and Melbourne Test and the Dean Elgar-led side are now looking to avoid a clean sweep to keep their slim chances alive for qualification into the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23.

Meanwhile, Marco Jansen has said that Team South Africa want to win their remaining matches of the ongoing WTC cycle to have the best possible chance of qualifying for the final.

“It’s making that mental shift and making a conscious decision to say I’m going to put my hand up and do whatever it takes to influence the team in a good way or get the team over the line,” he said.

“Personally for me, I know everyone gives their best, it’s trying to figure out what we can do as individuals to influence the team in a good way or influence the game.

“Whether that’s taking five blows to the body or bowling that seven-eight overs on the trot, sort of recognising the moment and doing whatever you can in your power to help the team into a good position.

“We have three Tests left until the final, obviously we want to win all three to give ourselves the best chance possible to get into the Test Championship final. So it’s not like we are only going into this game thinking it’s just another game and we cruise through it, there’s still a goal, still a purpose.”
