Akshay Kumar calls Bellbottom producer Vashu Bhagnani a hero; says “Woh REAL LIFE ke Akshay Kumar hai”

Last year, in an unprecedented move, the team of Bellbottom took Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Lara Dutta and everyone else to United Kingdom to shoot their thriller, while the world was still grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic. Now a day before the release, producer Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani made another first of its kind move. Today, a large media contingent was taken to Surat to watch the film since the theatres are shut in Mumbai.

After the film got over, the audiences got a surprise as Akshay Kumar, Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh joined for a post screening Q and A via Zoom.

During this conversation, Akshay Kumar was all praise for Vashu Bhagnani for daring to make this film when vaccines were a distant reality and nobody knew if its safe to venture out to shoot a film. Journalists clapped as Akshay Kumar said “Vashu Bhagnani real life ke Akshay Kumar hai” while trying to imply that what Vashu pulled off was heroic.

Bellbottom ends on an intriguing note, leaving the scope for a sequel. When asked if Bellbottom 2 is on, Akshay Kumar assured, “If we get a good script, we’ll definitely make it”.

Akshay Kumar also informed that a day after Bellbottom’s release, he’s starting the shoot of another film, also produced by Vashu Bhagnani. The superstar didn’t name the film while Vashu Bhagnani said that it is called Production No 41.

TWICE’s Jeongyeon halts future activites to focus on mental health

South Korean female group TWICE’s Jeongyeon will be once again taking break from all the activities due to health concerns. She previously took a break last October due to some health issues but she resumed activities beginning this year.

Jeongyeon’s agency, JYP Entertainment, on August 18 announced that due to symptoms of panic and psychological anxiety, Jeongyeon will not be participating in TWICE’s scheduled activities for the time being in order to focus on her recovery.

In the announcement, JYP Entertainment made the following statement, “We would like to inform you about TWICE member Jeongyeon’s current health situation. Jeongyeon is currently experiencing panic and psychological anxiety. Although Jeongyeon was moving forward with her schedule by simultaneously taking action for recovery, we value our artists’ health as the most important issue. Therefore, after deep discussions internally accompanied by professional medical measures, we have decided that it is needed for Jeongyeon to have sufficient time to focus on her recovery and rest. After discussions with Jeongyeon herself and other TWICE members, we inform you that Jeongyeon will be unable to attend TWICE’s activity for a while in future schedule. As the artist label, we will provide the best procedures for Jeongyeon to recover with sufficient amount of time. We kindly ask for your love and support for Jeongyeon’s full recovery. Thank you.”

TWICE made their comeback in June 2021 with their album ‘Taste Of Love’ and title track ‘Alcohol Free’. The group will release their first English single in September 2021.

ZEE5 announces their next Original love-comedy drama ‘Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai’ with Jassie Gill and Surbhi Jyoti in lead

ZEE5, India’s largest home-grown OTT platform, has a full slate with back-to-back announcements and premieres of the biggest films across languages. The most recent announcement is for the film ‘Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai’, which is based on a real incident where Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai was written on a currency note and it immediately went viral.

Presented by Dr.Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), Produced by Dhaval Gada and Aksshay Gada, and Directed by Ssaurabh Tyagi, ‘Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai’ marks the Bollywood debut of TV’s heartthrob, Surbhi Jyoti opposite the leading man and Punjabi munda, Jassie Gill. It also stars Vijay Raaz, Bijendra Kala, Atul Shrivastava and National Award winner and late actress Surekha Sikri in pivotal roles. The love-comedy also has a couple of interesting tracks which will be available on ‘Saregama’.

Set in a small town in Uttar Pradesh, ‘Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai’ is about a young man, Sintoo who falls in love with Sonam Gupta, the town’s heartbeat and a girl way out of his league. The story unfolds when Sonam reciprocates his feelings, leaving Sintoo all the more confused. What happens after is a series of comedy of errors where a line written on a note goes viral and starts a chain of events. Whether the movie has a happy ending or not is to be found out.

Box Office update: Akshay Kumar starrer Bellbottom opens with approx. 15% occupancy; opening lower than Roohi and Mumbai Saga

After much promotion and talk, the Akshay Kumar starrer Bellbottom finally released today, August 19. Given the fact that theatres have been shut for a while now, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, all eyes were glued to witness the spectacle of Bellbottom’s release on the big screen.

Reports suggest that Bellbottom opened to around 15% occupancy during morning and noon shows, but with the Covid-19 restrictions in place, mandating 50% occupancy in theatres, it comes to around 30%. The morning shows of the film witnessed meagre footfalls, with expectations that the same would increase over evening and night shows. But with most states having restrictions on late night shows these expectations might not translate into healthy footfalls.

Apart from the Covid-19 induced restrictions Bellbottom hit screens on a working weekday, resulting in a much lower than expected footfall ratio over morning and noon shows. However, trade circles have been lauding the producer and lead star of Bellbottom, Vashu Bhagnani and Akshay Kumar, for taking the first step to release a major Bollywood production in cinemas. In fact, the move to opt for a theatrical release is seen as a huge boost in reviving the exhibition sector.

Currently, Bellbottom that has released across approximately 1600 screens in India is expected to end its Day 1 business around the Rs. 3 cr. mark. But with the festivals of Onam and Rakshabandhan (Saturday and Sunday) over the weekend, expectations are that the business of the film will witness a spike in collections.

Shagun Pandey and Ashi Singh starrer primetime drama ‘Meet’ to premiere from August 23

Zee TV has been a trend-setter in shaping television content over the past three decades. After introducing audiences to several relatable characters who have emerged as the country’s most sought-after dinner-table companions and their inspiring stories, the channel is all set to introduce another narrative that will shatter gender stereotypes. The narrative will make the audience question age-old beliefs about what a young woman should or shouldn’t do. Zee TV’s next primetime drama ‘Meet’ lets viewers in on the journey of a spirited young girl from Haryana – Meet, who contrary to the popular perception that only a son can be a ghar ka chiraag, is the ghar ‘ki’ chiraag for her family. Not only is she the sole breadwinner, but also breaks societal rule books of gender roles by serving as a delivery agent and generally being the ‘fixer’ in any and every situation that typically a guy is expected to be!

Recently, it was announced that the show will feature popular television actress, Ashi Singh in the lead female role of Meet. While viewers are excited to see Ashi in a new avatar, it looks like there is some more exciting news for the audience. The actor for the male lead role has also been finalized and it is none other than the handsome heartthrob Shagun Pandey. What’s more is that coincidentally, his name is also Meet in the show. Meet is a rich Haryanvi boy who is not rigid about gender roles and has no issues with women working or men helping out at home. But he does believe that women should look a certain way and it’s a man’s responsibility to primarily provide in a household. A boy just as principled as his father, Meet wants to work his way up in the world, but also has his ways of enjoying life.

Talking about his character and the show, Shagun Pandey said “Meet is a well-written concept that questions gender roles and breaks archaic stereotypes. With this show, I believe we will be able to make people rethink their views when it comes to what is appropriate or inappropriate for a woman, what she should do or not do. Even today, a vast majority of families only see the sons of their house as the ghar ka chirag. No matter how far women have come today in terms of their achievements, patriarchy is ingrained in a lot of us. I’m honored to be a part of such a show where the concept of gender neutrality is seeded so organically. Unlike my personal views on the subject, my character is someone who sits on the fence with regard to understanding gender roles and social constructs. While he is all for women working in the professional space, he still believes that a man must be the primary breadwinner. He also feels women should look and dress a certain way … so viewers will see me go through a very interesting graph on the show in terms of evolving one’s thought process. I’m hoping my fans and followers will shower me with all their love and kindness like they always have and wish me and my team the very best in this new journey.”

Vishal Dadlani slams netizens who trolled the viral boy Sahdev Dirdo of ‘Bachpan Ka Pyar’ fame’

Bollywood singer and composer Vishal Dadlani has come in the defence of viral boy Sahdev Dirdo. The young sensation had recently featured in rapper Badshah’s version of ‘Bachpan Ka Pyar’ and Sahdev was brutally trolled by the netizens by saying he doesn’t have talent and what he does is not singing etc. Vishal bashed people who said such nasty things about the kid and asked them to think and speak as he is just a 10-year-old child. The singer also schooled people on why they will achieve by putting a small kid down.

As the kid went viral overnight he was picked up by rapper and singer Badshah to create a trendy version on the already viral track. But the audience didn’t get impressed and started slamming and trolling the young boy. Vishal Dadlani gave an earful to those people and asked them to not compare one child to another.

Vishal called out such people who are pitting kids against each other, calling one better than the other. Sahdev had also become a butt of jokes and memes when he was invited to grace the stage of Indian Idol as a guest. The 48-year-old singer took to his Instagram handle and posted a long video of him defending the viral boy and captioned it, “Dono achche nahin ho sakte kya? Leave them kids alone”.

Vishal Dadlani in his video said that he has been observing people saying how a particular boy who sings well should get famous and why has the Bachpan Ka Pyar boy become viral overnight and getting a lot of attention. He said that both are young kids and should be treated equally and not compared with each other. He further said that one child can sing better than another but just because Sahdev became viral doesn’t mean he must be put down. Finally, he added that one is entertaining and the other is talented and both are good in their own way and people must accept both. In the end, he bashed people and declared them to be kind as he is just a kid and this behavior isn’t pleasing.

Bell Bottom Day 1 Box Office Estimate: Akshay Kumar starrer rakes in approx. Rs. 3 crore on it’s opening day

Almost 18 months after the December 27 release, Good Newzz, Akshay Kumar has returned to the big screen with the action thriller, Bell Bottom. The movie has been released in India on about 1,500 screens with 4,500 plus shows, however, there is an occupancy cap of 50% at most places due to Covid 19 pandemic. Most states don’t have the routine night shows too due to restrictions imposed by the respective state governments. According to early estimates, the movie has collected in the range of Rs. 2.75 crore to Rs 3.25 crore on it’s opening day at the box-office in India. Of the total capacity that it had on the opening day, it recorded an occupancy of 15% through the day.

The opening is more or less in the same range as the March 2021 release, Roohi [Rs. 3.06 cr.] fronted by Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. The day one figures are however, higher than John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi’s gangster drama, Mumbai Saga [Rs. 2.82 cr.]. However, the major drawback for Bell Bottom lies in the fact that the film has not been released in a major market like Maharashtra, which contributes nearly 30% to the business of a feature film. With Maharashtra, the movie would have raked in collections around the Rs. 4.25 crore to 4.50 crore mark in the current scenario.

Bell Bottom is the first Hindi film to be released on the big screen after the second wave of pandemic. The industry is pinning hopes on the film to put up respectable figures and start the wheel of cinema halls again. The general pre-release expectation of the trade from day one of Bell Bottom was in the range of Rs. 5 to 6 crores, and the estimates are lower than the general expectations of trade experts.

Opening in the range of Rs. 3 crore mark suggests an extended four day weekend of approx. Rs. 15 crore plus, if the film shows usual trend as they did in the pre-covid times. For those unaware, Bell Bottom is directed by Ranjit Tewari and produced by the Bhagnani’s under their banner, Pooja Entertainment. The movie also stars Vaani Kapoor and Lara Dutta in key roles.
