Rohit Sharma

The IPL 2024 clash between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) witnessed an electrifying atmosphere at the Sawai Mansingh Cricket Stadium in Jaipur, with a palpable craze for Rohit Sharma evident among the fans even on the roads of the city.

Rohit Sharma, the former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper, has always been a crowd favorite, and one of the major reasons behind that is that he rarely crosses the line between teams and fans.

In the vibrant city of Jaipur, the passion for cricket and its beloved players was visible even before the IPL 2024 showdown between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) began on Monday, April 22. The excitement was at its peak when the MI team bus struck in a traffic jam.

Rohit Sharma gets immense love from the Jaipur fans

However, amidst the overcrowding, a local hero named "Sunny" came to the rescue, as he skillfully navigated the traffic to ensure the MI squad reached the stadium in time for the IPL 2023 clash with the hosts, the Royals.

This heartwarming moment captured by MI showed the players cheering for their savior. This wasn’t just enough, as another heartening moment is going viral on the internet.

Despite facing a heavy defeat at the hands of RR, the craze for the MI remained solid among the Jaipur fans, as they showed support for Rohit and the Mumbai team on the streets as well.

In a delightful turn of events, when the MI team bus had yet again struck in traffic, the crowd gathered around the bus, chanting the name of their beloved captain, Rohit Sharma. He was also seen wearing a broad smile on his face and hearing the chants of his name.

However, Rohit was seen smiling and hearing the fans shouting “Mumbai cha Raja Rohit Sharma” (Mumbai's king is Rohit Sharma) and “Hamara neta kaisa ho? Rohit Sharma jaisa ho” repeatedly.

Notably, Rohit was the first captain to win five IPL trophies with the Mumbai Indians (MI). Speaking about the senior opener’s performance in the ongoing IPL 2024, he scored 303 runs in his 8 appearances in the tournament so far, an average of 43.

He is among the top 5 run scorers this season at the moment. On the other hand, MI is sitting in the 7th spot in the IPL 2024 points table with 6 points from the 8 games that they have played so far in the league. MI will next face the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 27 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Earlier, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh backed Sanju Samson to be India’s next T20I captain after Rohit. He also backed the RR skipper to get the ticket for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

He feels Samson should be groomed as the next T20I captain for India. However, Hardik Pandya is tipped as the next T20I captain and even he led the team on many occasions.

Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan

Pakistan Cricket Team is host to another internal controversy. As per the reports in Pakistan media, it is learned that all the happenings in the team have been because of the keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan's batting position in the team in the shortest format of the game.

As per the reports it is learned that team management wants Mohammad Rizwan to bat at No.4 in the T20Is. However, skipper Babar Azam isn't keen on the decision. The captain wants the keeper-batter to bat at No.3 as he did in the last two T20Is against New Zealand.

In another twist, it is learned that Mohammad Rizwan isn't happy with both team management and skipper Babar Azam. He isn't happy with his batting position either at 3 or 4. The reports claimed that the keeper-batter wants to open the innings, which he has done for most of his career.

Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam were one of the most consistent opening pair for the Pakistan Cricket Team in the T20Is. However, when Shaheen Afridi was named as the captain of the team the management changed the opening pair as Babar Azam was demoted to 3 with Rizwan and Saim Ayub opening.

However, the opening combination of the team has seen another change. After Babar Azam was reappointed as the captain of the team, the captain promoted himself up the order and opened the innings in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand.

With Babar Azam going up the order, Mohammad Rizwan was demoted to No.3. The move so far has worked out as the keeper-batter played a magnificent innings of unbeaten 45 runs in the first game against New Zealand and took his team home to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.

Mohammad Rizwan looked in decent touch in the third T20I as well. He managed 22 runs before getting retired out. With Pakistan opting keeper-batter to bat at no.3, it might well be an indication that they will follow the same batting order in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, to be played in the USA and the Caribbean in June this year.

Mohammad Rizwan likely to be ruled out of the T20I series against New Zealand

Mohammad Rizwan, who got retired hurt in the third T20I, is likely to miss the remaining games of the series. Head coach Azhar Mahmood revealed that keeper-batter had a niggle and they don't want to risk him for World Cup by playing him against New Zealand. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

"If you would have seen, the boys really worked hard in the Kakul camp, body fatigue might also be there... About Rizwan, he had a niggle, and with the World Cup near, we have seen what kind of a fighter he is, so we did not want to aggravate his injury and miss him in the World Cup.

"It was the same with Irfan, we pulled him out not because of him suddenly becoming unfit. We have received a setback with Azam too, so we hope he gets fit and joins Pakistan for the World Cup."

The fourth T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand will take place on 25th April. The Babar Azam-led side would be keen to make a comeback after facing a horrific loss in the third game.

CSK vs LSG Impact Players

In the 39th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced off each other. The match between the two teams is being held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on Tuesday, April 23.

Before the match in Chennai, the two teams had faced off each other at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 19. That

game was dominated by the home team and KL Rahul & Co. comprehensively thrashed the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side by 8 wickets with an over remaining.

Batting first, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed to register 176 for 6 as Ravindra Jadeja hit a half-century and MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane and Moeen Ali made good contributions. During the run-chase, the LSG openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock decimated the CSK bowling and stitched up a stupendous 134-run partnership before Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis finished off the game.

Talking about the IPL 2024 points table positions of the Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, both teams have played an equal number of matches and have won the same number of games with the only difference between the teams being the Net Run Rate. CSK take the 4th spot with a decent Net Run Rate of 0.529 while LSG are in the fifth position with an NRR of 0.123

IPL 2024: Who are the impact players nominated by CSK and LSG for game 39 of IPL 2024

Lucknow Super Giants opted to bowl first in the match after winning the toss. At the toss, KL Rahul said that they made the decision considering the dew factor. KL Rahul said:

"We'll bowl first. There is a bit of dew, we have trained here and there is a bit of dew that will play an impact. Wicket is a bit slow and hopefully we can put their batters under pressure. We played well in all three facets, but we have left the result back in Lucknow. We know have challenging Chennai is, everyone will be cheering for them. Same team for us."

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad also spoke about the dew factor at the toss and revealed that they have dropped Rachin Ravindra from the playing XI, replacing him with Daryl Mitchell.

"Nothing different, but the coin toss is something I need to work on. There will be some dew later on, but you never know how the wicket will surprise you. You just need to go out there and express yourself, if the ball in in your area they just attack it. Hoping to set the foundation upfront. One change for us - Daryl comes in for Rachin."

Aaron Finch and Subramaniam Badrinath

The impact player rule in the ongoing IPL 2024 became a major topic for debate, especially after Indian skipper Rohit Sharma shared its drawbacks, followed by Ricky Ponting’s concerns. Ponting said that this rule made coaches’ jobs difficult, while Rohit said that it impacts all-rounder growth.

The Impact Player rule was introduced last year, and it allows one substitute player per team to participate actively in a match, replacing any player before the 14th over of either inning. While it offers tactical advantages to IPL franchises, it may hinder the opportunities for all-rounders like Shivam Dube, who excel in both batting and bowling.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Dube is an excellent all-rounder but finds limited opportunities in the ongoing IPL 2024 due to the Impact Player rule. The rule's influence on the players’ selections for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is under scrutiny.

Subramaniam Badrinath and Aaron Finch debate the Impact Player rule's impact on the all-rounders

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath said that the Impact Player is very positive for those players who can’t find a place in the playing XI, but still they get a chance to showcase their skills. He also said that this rule brings a more tactical perspective to the game.

The former CSK star further highlighted its positive aspects despite the challenges it presents for broadcasters and captains. He admitted the challenges for decision-makers but stressed the benefit of providing opportunities for other players apart from XI to showcase their skills on the field.

Speaking about Shivam Dube’s case, Badrinath told Hindustan Times on Star Sports Press Room: “If Shivam Dube can bowl well he can still be on the field but there is some other better bowler or a better fielder who gets an opportunity that's the reason probably Shivam Dube is not there. He has been given a very-very specific role - a middle over specialist.

In the middle-over, he comes in when there are slow bowlers are on, spinners are bowling, that's where he is the both effective but with ball in hand and on the field there are some other players who are much more effective and they are getting an opportunity to be on the field at that point.”

During the same discussion, former Australian captain Aaron Finch expressed his disagreement with Badrinath's views on the Impact Player rule. Finch mentioned that the impact player rule makes the captain's job easier but reduces the tactical elements of the game.

I agree with what Rohit Sharma: Aaron Finch

Finch explained that the rule allows captains to easily fill gaps in their lineup, either with a weaker batter or by relying on bowlers to fulfill all-rounder roles. This, in turn, reduces the strategic challenges faced during the match, as captains no longer need to carefully manage their resources and make the most of the opponents' weaknesses effectively.

Finch said on the show, “But I think from an overall game, I agree with what Rohit Sharma said about the all-rounder. If you're playing International Cricket, you need an all-rounder or you're left with six batters in your tank. So, you're just I think you're taking that opportunity away from some particularly young India all-rounders.

They get pigeonholed because maybe their battings are not good enough to be in the top six, maybe their bowling is not good enough to be in the first four bowlers but as a package, that might be really good. But they just get left behind because there's no need for them anymore.”

In the end, Badrinath said that players like Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma are getting opportunities in the ongoing IPL 2024 due to the Impact Player rule. He also noted that Ashutosh may not be well-known if this rule wasn’t there, and it is “a big boon” for Indian domestic players.

Ambati Rayudu and MI,CSK

Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu highlighted the difference between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He stated that while the Hardik Pandya-led side is desperate to win, Chennai focuses more on the process.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are powerhouses in the Indian Premier League. Both the teams are most successful franchises in the league with 5 titles each under their belt. They have played a dominating brand of cricket and apart from the IPL have won the Champions League as well.

Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu has been part of both teams in the IPL. Not only being part, but he has also had experienced success with both teams, winning titles with both franchises. He started his career with Mumbai in 2010 and played till 2017.

Ambati Rayudu won titles with MI in 2013, 2015 and 2017. In 2018, the batter moved to Chennai Super Kings and made an immediate impact as he smashed 602 runs and helped the team win the title. After that, he played a key role in the team's titles winning campaigns in 2021 and 2023, when he retired.

Ambati Rayudu while pointing out the difference between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings stated that the former has a culture of winning and the mood of the team depends on that wheel Super Kings don't analyze results much. Speaking to Star Sports, he explained:

"CSK focuses more on the process. They do not analyse results much. Their mood and mood swings are not because of the results. MI is a bit different. MI mostly want to win and their culture is like everything depends on winning. They have a culture of, jeetna hi hai (Win is a must). Winning is non-negotiable."

Your brain will explode if you will spend more time at MI - Ambati Rayudu

Further talking about the same, Ambati Rayudu stated that Chennai Super Kings has a much better culture. Validating his point, he said that his brain exploded while playing for Mumbai Indians even though his game improved a lot. He concluded by saying that, at CSK players are made better without any hassle. He said:

"Both CSK and MI have two different cultures but at the end of the day, both work hard. I feel CSK has a much better environment. Your brain will explode if you will spend more time at MI. When I used to play for MI, my game improved a lot.

"If you had not won the match, they do not see an excuse. At the end of the day, you have to perform. MI has an environment where you keep getting better. At CSK you are made better and that too without any hassle," he concluded.

Both Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are currently playing in the IPL 2024. While the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side are 4th on the table, the Hardik Pandya-led side are reeling at the bottom half of the table with just three wins under their belt.

KL Rahul, Ajinkya Rahane

Captain KL Rahul gave his team Lucknow Super Giants a flying start in the ongoing game against Chennai Super Kings by pulling off a stunning catch.

The wicketkeeper-batsman won the toss and opted to bowl first. And his decision was justified in the very first over as his brilliant catch behind the stumps sent back Ajinkya Rahane for just 1. New Zealand pacer Matt Henry opened the bowling for LSG at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

After conceding two singles and a double on the first five deliveries, he struck on the final ball of the over. The right-arm pacer bowled one in the corridor of uncertainty and Ajinkya Rahane decided to play a drive. However, he could not middle the ball and ended up edging it behind the stumps.

On most days, the ball would have gone past the wicketkeeper as it was a good few yards away from KL Rahul. However, the LSG captain made a full-length dive to his right and caught a one-handed stunner to give his team the early breakthrough. Rahane had to depart after scoring just one run in three balls.

Watch the catch from KL Rahul:

pic.twitter.com/H48l3dL8E4

— Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka (@Hanji_CricDekho) April 23, 2024

The latest failure has further extended Ajinkya Rahane's poor run as an opener in IPL 2024. He has been promoted to open the innings since the game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium earlier this month.

However, the veteran batsman has failed to justify the decision so far. He was out for just five runs against Mumbai Indians before scoring 26 runs off 24 balls against LSG last week. In his latest outing, he could not even reach double-digits.

Talking about the ongoing game, CSK were on 26 for 1 in the fourth over at the time of writing this report. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell were batting in the middle for the hosts. CSK are looking to get back to winning ways after suffering a defeat against LSG last week.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Brian Lara

Yashasvi Jaiswal, on Monday (April 22), roared back to form with a stunning match-winning century for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

While the opening batsman did get a number of starts in the previous games, he struggled to convert them into big scores. However, he did not repeat the mistake against Mumbai Indians and went on to score a blistering century to power Rajasthan Royals to a thumping nine-wicket win in their last game in Jaipur this season.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted a competitive total of 179/9 in 20 overs with Tilak Varma scoring a half-century. In reply, Rajasthan Royals chased down the total inside 19 overs by losing just one wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the architect of the big win for the Royals with his unbeaten ton.

He and Jos Buttler shared a 74-run stand for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed by Piyush Chawla for 35. Unlike Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal made the most of the start and went on to score his second IPL century while also sharing an unbeaten 109-run stand with captain Sanju Samson. The southpaw scored 104 runs off 60 balls with the help of nine fours and seven sixes.

Yashasvi Jaiswal meets Brian Lara:

The night became more special for Yashasvi Jaiswal as he got to meet Brian Lara after the game. In a video posted by the Royals on social media, the young opener looked excited as he ran towards the legendary batsman and hugged him while also saying: "Finally."

Yashasvi Jaiswal on his innings:

Yashasvi Jaiswal also opened up on his century against Mumbai Indians. Speaking at the end of the game, the Royals opener said that he enjoyed his knock from the start while also insisting that he is just focusing on the process and not the results

"Thank you so much, I really enjoyed from the start and I made sure I was watching the ball properly and playing proper cricketing shots. I’m trying to do what I am doing well, some days it comes good and some days it doesn’t, I’m not thinking much.

"I want to thank all my seniors the way they have guided me. I want to thank the Rajasthan Royals management and especially Sanga sir and Sanju bhai for giving me opportunities. I go out and give my best in the practice sessions and I’m so happy today,"
he said.

Deepak Hooda, Daryl Mitchell

Deepak Hooda, on Tuesday (April 23), took a brilliant catch to send back Daryl Mitchell in the ongoing game between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The New Zealand batsman was promoted to number three after CSK lost the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane in the first over itself. LSG captain KL Rahul pulled up an absolute blinder behind the stumps to send back Rahane and give his team the first breakthrough.

Daryl Mitchell and Ruturaj Gaikwad then steadied the ship. Both the batters were looking well set and it looked like CSK won't lose any more wickets in the powerplay. However, Daryl Mitchell had to return to the pavilion in the final over of the powerplay due to a brilliant effort from Deepak Hooda.

On the third ball of the sixth over, the New Zealand star went for a pull shot against a short ball from Yash Thakur. While he made a decent connection with the ball, he could not keep his shot grounded. At first, it looked like the ball would sail over Deepak Hooda's head at mid-wicket. However, Hooda dived to his left and caught the ball in a brilliant fashion to give LSG the second breakthrough.

Watch the catch from Deepak Hooda:

pic.twitter.com/ptOsjeEunR

— Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka (@Hanji_CricDekho) April 23, 2024

Daryl Mitchell departed after scoring 11 runs off 10 balls. The latest failure will put the batter under more pressure as he has failed to deliver with the bat so far. In six games, he has managed to score a modest 135 runs with a top score of 34 and a strike-rate of 125.

While Mitchell has been under pressure to deliver, he has the full backing of the CSK team management. Recently, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming threw his support behind the batter and backed him to do well with the bat.

"He has been contributing without giving star performances. We like to back players a lot and it is not always the Man-of-the-Match performance that we value the most," said Fleming.

India vs Pakistan

India National Cricket Team are unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As per the reports in IANS, it is learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) isn't keen on sending a team to Pakistan due to the relations between the two nations.

As per the reports, it is learned that Champions Trophy 2025 might get shifted or a hybrid model will be used to stage the tournament that will be played in Pakistan, in February. The source also claimed that there is very little chance that the two teams will be locking horns with each other in the bilateral series.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently made a statement, saying that if India sends their team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 then they would think about a bilateral series with India. The two nations last played in a series against each other in 2012-13.

However, a source close to BCCI said that there is no chance of India playing a bilateral series against Pakistan. He made a bold claim, saying that they are even doubtful of going to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. A source told IANS:

"Forget bilateral series...Team India may not even travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. There might be a change of venue, s hybrid model is also possible."

The BCCI source further added that the governing body will need permission from the government to travel to India, which is unlikely to happen. He admitted that the Champions Trophy is an ICC event and it will be tough for them to make the decision but without the government's signal nothing would happen. He added:

"The Indian board would need permission from the government for travel, currently our relations with Pakistan are not that good either. The Champions Trophy is an ICC event, so it would be a tough call for India but nothing without the government's order/green signal. Bilateral series, I don't see in the near future, that's next to impossible.”

There could be a possibility of a hybrid model as well. The same happened during the Asia Cup 2023 when the India team didn't travel to Pakistan and the tournament was played in Sri Lanka and Pakistan with India playing games in the island nation.

I think it will be a great contest between the two sides - Rohit Sharma on a bilateral series with Pakistan

Recently, Rohit Sharma opened up about his desire to play the bilateral series with Pakistan. He said that he would love to play against the arch-rivals and he enjoys playing pure cricket. Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, he said:

"I would love to. At the end of the day, we want to be in the contest. I think it will be a great contest between the two sides. We anyway play them in the ICC tournaments. So, it doesn’t even matter.

"I am only interested in pure cricket. I am not looking at anything else. It’s just pure cricket. A battle between bat and ball. It will be a great contest so why not.”

India and Pakistan will be up against each other in the T20 World Cup 2024. The two teams will be locking horns with each other in New York on June 9. However, after that, it will be time for the Champions Trophy and it remains to be seen if India will go to Pakistan or not.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad, on Tuesday (April 23), created history as he scored a stunning century in the ongoing game between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The right-handed batsman became the first-ever CSK captain to score a century in the IPL. He led his team from the very front and bailed them out of trouble with his century. Asked to bat first, CSK were off to a poor start as Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell departed inside the powerplay.

While Rahane was dismissed for just one in the first over by Matt Henry, Mitchell was sent back by Yash Thakur for 11 runs in the sixth over. CSK were reeling at 49 for 2 in the sixth over before Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja took the score past the 100-run mark. The duo added 52 runs for the third wicket before Mohsin Khan dismissed Jadeja to break the partnership.

Ruturaj Gaikwad scores century:

After Jadeja's dismissal, it was one-way traffic as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube took the CSK bowlers to the cleaners. Both the batters matched each other shot for shot as Dube completed his third fifty of the ongoing IPL while Ruturaj Gaikwad went on to score his first century of IPL 2024.

He completed his fifty off 28 balls in the ninth over. In the 18th over, he hit Yash Thakur for a six and a four to complete his century off 56 balls. The right-handed batsman remained unbeaten as CSK finished their innings on 210 for 4. Gaikwad scored 108 runs from 60 balls with the help of 12 fours and three sixes. Dube, on the other hand, scored 66 runs from just 27 balls with the help of three fours and seven sixes.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Ruturaj Gaikwad's century:

No extra risk, didn't look like going for too many shots, calm, kept getting boundary, shots like pure love, so effortless, what a knock. Ruturaj Gaikwad! 🙏💛

After the big total, CSK will be looking to win the ongoing game and get back to winning ways in IPL 2024. In their last game, they suffered a crushing 8-wicket loss at the hands of Lucknow Super Giants and would be keen to avenge the loss.
