The Australian limited-overs captain Aaron Finch became the second player in Big Bash League (BBL) history to score 3000 runs on Sunday, January 1. The 36-year-old became the second batter after the explosive opener, Chris Lynn, to reach this milestone.

Finch achieved the milestone during the Melbourne Renegades’ encounter against the Perth Scorchers in BBL match number 24 at Docklands Stadium, Melbourne. The right-handed batter was 12 runs away from reaching the milestone before the game and easily surpassed it.

BBL legend Chris Lynn, who previously represented the Brisbane Heat, has signed a contract with the Adelaide Strikers for the ongoing season. Lynn is the all-time leading run scorer in the competition, scoring 3178 runs in 108 matches at an average of 34.17 and a strike rate of 148.83.

The Renegades won the toss and elected to bat first, and Finch came to bat at number 4 after losing two early wickets against the Scorchers. Left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff dismissed Nic Maddinson and Jhye Richardson dismissed Martin Guptill to restrict them to 9/2 in 2 overs.

Finch gave momentum to the Renegades’ innings with 12 runs in the fourth over bowled by Richardson. The right-hander smashed the fast bowler for three fours and reached 3000 runs with the third four of his over.

He finished his innings with 65 runs, including six fours and two sixes before being bowled by Andrew Tye. Will Sutherland and Akeal Hosein helped the Renegades reach a respectable total of 155 runs for the loss of six wickets in their innings.

The right-handed batter has been impressive in the ongoing BBL season, scoring 236 runs at an average of 47.2. He now has the most 50+ scores in the BBL, with 65 against the Scorchers today. He received the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 43-ball 70 against the Sydney Thunder as the Renegades beat them by four wickets at Docklands.
