Prithvi Shaw catch by Noor Ahmad

Noor Ahmad, on Wednesday (April 24), made an early impact in the ongoing game between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium even before bowling his first over of the game.

The Afghanistan spinner took two catches in the fourth over of Delhi Capitals' innings to help his team get rid of both the openers. He first took a regulation catch at deep square leg to send back the dangerous Jake Fraser-McGurk before coming up with an absolutely outstanding effort two balls later to dismiss Prithvi Shaw.

Sandeep Warrier bowled a short delivery and Prithvi Shaw decided to play a pull shot. With not much room to play the shot, Shaw did not make a good connection with the ball and ended up miscuing it. However, it looked the ball would fall well in front of Noor Ahmad and Shaw would be safe.

The GT player, however, had other ideas. Noor Ahmad came charging in from deep backward square leg and dived sideways to take the catch just inches above the ground. With the timely dive, he managed to get his fingers under the ball. The on-field umpires had to send the decision upstairs and after a while the third umpire adjudged it a legitimate catch from Noor Ahmad.

Prithvi Shaw returned to the pavilion after scoring 11 runs off seven balls. Before him, Warrier had sent back Fraser-McGurk. The in-form Australian got the start and raced away to 23 runs off 13 balls with the help of two fours and as many sixes before hitting one straight to Noor Ahmad.

After losing both the openers, DC lost the wicket of Shai Hope inside the powerplay as well. Warrier was the bowler once again as he sent back the West Indies star for 5 runs in the sixth over. At the time of writing this report, DC was on 44 for 3.

Shai Hope Catch by Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan, on Wednesday (April 24), pulled off a stunning diving catch to send back Shai Hope in the ongoing game between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

GT skipper Shubman Gill opted to bowl first after winning the toss and his decision has been totally justified in the early stages. Sandeep Warrier has rocked DC by taking three wickets inside the powerplay. Openers Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk shared a 35-run stand for the first wicket before Warrier dismissed both of them in the fourth over.

He first dismissed Fraser-McGurk when he hit one straight to Noor Ahmad at deep backward square leg. The Afghan spinner then came up with a brilliant diving catch to send back Shaw. Fraser-McGurk departed for 23 runs off 14 balls while Shaw scored 11 off seven balls.

Axar Patel and Shai Hope then joined hands in the middle. However, before they could guide their team to a strong position, Warrier struck again to send back Hope and left DC reeling at 44 for 3 in the final over of the powerplay.

The right-arm pacer bowled one on the good length that was shaping away and Hope decided to go for an ambitious drive. However, the West Indies star ended up edging the ball towards the backward point where Rashid Khan came running in from the deep before diving forward to take a brilliant two-handed catch. Hope departed after scoring five runs off six balls.

Watch the catch from Rashid Khan:

Talking about the game, DC were on 51 for 3 in the eighth over at the time of writing this report. Axar Patel and captain Rishabh Pant were batting in the middle for the hosts.

Meanwhile, Warrier became the second bowler after Trent Boult to take three wickets inside the powerplay in the ongoing IPL 2024. Boult was the first bowler to do it when he rocked Mumbai Indians' top order at the Wankhede Stadium earlier this month. For GT, Warrier became the second bowler after Mohammed Shami to claim three wickets inside the first six overs. Shami has done it three times for GT so far.

Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni

After failing to lead Delhi Capitals to a win in the last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, captain Rishabh Pant is leading his team from the very front in the ongoing game against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Asked to bat first, DC were off to a disastrous start as Sandeep Warrier blew their top order away inside the powerplay. In the fourth over, the right-arm pacer dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk and Prithvi Shaw before dismissing Shai Hope in the sixth over to reduce DC to 44 for 3 inside the powerplay.

After Hope's dismissal, Rishabh Pant joined Axar Patel in the middle and the duo steadied the ship for the home side. They shared a big stand of 113 runs for the fourth wicket to put DC on course for a big total. Noor Ahmad broke the partnership in the 17th over by dismissing Axar Patel. The spin-bowling allrounder departed after scoring 66 runs off 43 balls with the help of five fours and four sixes.

Unlike Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant remained in the middle till the end to guide his team to a big total of 224 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs. He remained unbeaten on 88 off just 43 balls. Tristan Stubbs also played a crucial cameo of 26 runs from just 7 balls.

Rishabh Pant hit as many as eight sixes in his innings. Three of those sixes came on the last three balls of the innings. And the best of the lot is the helicopter shot that he played for a six. On the first ball of the 16th over, Mohit Sharma bowled a full delivery on the pads and Rishabh Pant brought out MS Dhoni's trademark shot, hitting the ball over the cow corner for a maximum.

With 224 runs on the scoreboard, DC will be looking to win the game and get back to winning ways after suffering a 67-run defeat in their last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. DC have already defeated GT once this season and will be fancying their chances to do a double.

Rishabh Pant Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma, the veteran Gujarat pacer did not have a good day vs Delhi Capitals as Rishabh Pant smoked him all over the park in the DC vs GT clash. Rishabh Pant led his team Delhi Capitals from the very front against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. He scored an unbeaten 88 runs to guide DC to a big total of 224/4 in 20 overs after GT won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Rishabh Pant came out to bat in the sixth over after DC lost three wickets for just 44 runs. Sandeep Warrier dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk (23), Prithvi Shaw (11), and Shai Hope (5) cheaply to put GT in the driver's seat. The DC captain and Axar Patel did not let GT capitalize on the early breakthroughs by sharing a 113-run stand for the fourth wicket.

After scoring 48 runs on 32 balls, Rishabh Pant went on to score as many as 40 runs on the last 11 deliveries he faced. And the bowler who was at the receiving end of the DC captain's whirlwind batting was Mohit Sharma. Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma, on Wednesday (April 24), bowled the most expensive over in the history of the Indian Premier League. The right-arm pacer conceded a staggering 73 runs in his four overs during the game between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

GT skipper Shubman Gill did not use Mohit Sharma till the 12th over as he relied on him to bowl in the crucial death overs. The fast-bowler conceded 12 runs in his first over with Rishabh Pant hitting him for two fours. He was taken out of the attack straightaway after that over before he was given the ball to bowl the 16th over.

Also Read: DC vs GT: Rashid Khan follows Noor Ahmad, takes a blinder to dismiss Shai Hope (Watch Video)

Pant hit him for two sixes in the over as the GT pacer conceded 16 runs in his second over. In the 18th over, Mohit Sharma gave away 14 runs with Pant hitting him for another six. In his first three overs, the 35-year-old conceded 42 runs without taking any wickets.

Gill gave Mohit Sharma the ball to bowl the final over as well and the pacer ended up conceding as many as 31 runs. Pant took him to the cleaners and hit him for four sixes and a four in the over in addition to taking a double.

Mohit Sharma bowls the most expensive spell in IPL:

Mohit Sharma now holds the record for the most expensive over in the history of the IPL. The record was previously held by Basil Thampi who had conceded 70 runs while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2018.

Mohit Sharma has become the first bowler to touch the 70-run mark while bowling and the first to concede more than 70 runs in a match. Yash Dayal is third on the list for conceding 69 runs while playing for Gujarat Titans against Kolkata Knight Riders when Rinku Singh famously hit him for five sixes in a row.

England's Reece Topley is fourth on the list for giving away 68 runs while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this season.

Most expensive spells in IPL:

  • 0/73 - Mohit Sharma (GT) vs DC, Delhi, 2024
  • 0/70 - Basil Thampi (SRH) vs RCB, Bengaluru, 2018
  • 0/69 - Yash Dayal (GT) vs KKR, Ahmedabad, 2023

Wriddhiman Saha catch by Axar Patel

Axar Patel, on Wednesday (April 24), took a brilliant catch to dismiss Wriddhiman Saha and gave his team Delhi Capitals a much-needed breakthrough in the ongoing game against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Chasing 225 runs, GT were off to a poor start with their skipper Shubman Gill departing for just six runs in the second over. However, Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan did not let DC make early inroads into the game. They scored at a good pace to keep their team in contention.

At the end of the powerplay, GT were on 67 for 1. The duo made sure to keep the run rate around 10. DC were in desperate need of a wicket and it finally came in the tenth over courtesy of a brilliant catch from Axar Patel. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav bowled one well outside the off stump.

Also Read: DC vs GT: Rashid Khan follows Noor Ahmad, takes a blinder to dismiss Shai Hope (Watch Video)

The ball was asking to be hit and Wriddhiman Saha did not hesitate. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman decided to play an aerial shot to clear the infield. He made a good connection with the ball, hitting it towards the cover region. It looked like the ball would easily sail over Axar Patel.

However, the DC star, who is widely regarded as one of the best fielders of the team, jumped really high and plucked the ball out of thin air to give his team a crucial breakthrough. Saha departed after scoring 39 runs off 25 balls with the help of five fours and a six.

After the catch, Axar Patel made an impact with the ball too. On the first ball of the 11th over, he dismissed Azmatullah Omarzai for one run to reduce GT to 98 for 3. Earlier in the game, Axar Patel scored a fine half-century and shared a 100-plus stand with captain Rishabh Pant to help his team post a big total.

DC were reeling at 44 for 3 before Pant and Axar shared a 113-run stand for the fourth wicket. Axar departed after scoring 66 runs while Pant remained unbeaten on 88 off 43 balls.

Rishabh Pant Injured

Rishabh Pant, on Wednesday (April 24), copped a painful blow on his thigh during the game between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The incident took place in the 13th over of the innings when the DC captain decided to stand up to the stumps when Rasikh Dar Salam was bowling. With pinch-hitter Shahrukh Khan at the crease, Rishabh Pant probably did not want him to bat from outside the crease and decided to stand just behind the stump.

Also Read: DC vs GT: Noor Ahmad takes the CATCH OF IPL 2024 as Prithvi Shaw left stunned (Watch Video)

However, he failed to gather the fifth ball of the over and ended up suffering a painful blow. It was a length delivery from the right-arm pacer that angled in sharply after pitching. Shahrukh Khan was beaten all ends up as the ball sneaked through his bat and pad. Rishabh Pant also failed to collect the ball and it hit him on his thigh.

The DC star was grimacing in pain straightaway and started limping. He immediately decided to walk back and not stand just behind the stumps. Rishabh Pant looked in pain and was limping profusely. However, he managed to stay on the field and lead his team. DC will be hoping that the blow was not serious and their talismanic skipper continues to ply his trade for them.

Rishabh Pant, DC vs GT

Mukesh Kumar held his nerve and defended four runs on the final ball to power Delhi Capitals to a thrilling four-run win over Gujarat Titans in the 40th game of IPL 2024. Set a target of 225, GT finished their innings on 220/8 despite half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan and David Miller.

Chasing 225, GT started poorly as their captain Shubman Gill was dismissed by Anrich Nortje for just six runs in the second over. Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan then steadied the ship with an 82-run stand before the former's dismissal opened the floodgates.

Kuldeep Yadav broke the stand in the 11th over by dismissing Saha for 39. Three runs later, Axar Patel dismissed Azmatullah Omarzai for just 1 to reduce GT to 98 for 3. Sudharsan, on the other end, completed his fifty off 29 balls but could not finish the game for his team.

His knock came to an end in the 13th over when Rasikh Salam sent him back for 65. The likes of Shahrukh Khan (8) and Rahul Tewatia (4) could not get going with the bat either as GT lost six wickets for 152 in the 16th over. GT's chances were looking all done and dusted at that stage before David Miller revived their hopes by hitting 24 runs in the 17th over.

He hit his compatriot Anrich Nortje for three sixes and a four in the over. In the same over, he also completed his fifty off just 21 balls. However, Mukesh Kumar dismissed him for 55 in the very next over to put DC in the driver's seat once again. The drama, however, was not finished yet.

In the 19th over, Rashid Khan hit a four while R Sai Kishore hit two sixes to collect 18 runs off Rasikh Salam's over. On the final ball of the over, Rasikh Salam dismissed Sai Kishore. With 19 runs needed off the last over, Rashid began by hitting Mukesh Kumar for two fours.

The next two balls did not yield any run as Rashid decided against taking a single to keep the strike. On the fifth ball, he hit a six to bring down the equation to five runs from the last ball. However, Mukesh Kumar held his nerve and bowled a dot to pull off a four-run win for his side.

DC vs GT: Delhi's innings as it happened

Earlier in the game, captain Rishabh Pant's unbeaten knock of 88 runs helped DC recover from 44 for 3 to post 224/4 in the allotted 20 overs after they were asked to bat first.

Sandeep Warrier put GT in the driver's seat by taking three wickets inside the powerplay. In the fourth over of the innings, he ended the 35-run stand between openers Jake Fraser-McGurk (23) and Prithvi Shaw (11) by dismissing both of them. In the sixth over, he dismissed Shai Hope for just 5 to leave DC reeling at 44 for 3.

From that position, it was one-way traffic as Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel steadied the ship for DC before batting them to a strong position. The duo added 113 runs for the fourth wicket. The partnership came to an end in the 17th over when Noor Ahmad dismissed Axar for 66.

After Axar's departure, Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs provided the finishing touches by scoring a staggering 67 runs in the last three overs. Pant, who was batting on 48 runs off 32 balls when Axar was dismissed, went on to score 40 runs in the last 11 balls.

In the final over of the innings, the DC skipper hit Mohit Sharma for four sixes and a four as the pacer conceded 31 runs in the over. Pant's 88-run knock came off just 43 balls and was studded with five fours and eight sixes. Stubbs, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 26 runs off just seven balls.
